Love this album!!! Dark, Heavy, Melodic Heavy Metal!! Fans of Dio-era Sabbath, Savatage, Iron Maiden should dig this...

Anyone?

I haven't heard this one. I own Matters of the Dark and while I don't think it's bad, nothing sticks out in my mind. I'll have to revisit that one and give it another spin. I understand they have a new singer (Joe Comeau). How does he compare to the old guy?

Joe sang for Annihilator...haven't heard him in Tad Morose. The singer on this album (and Matters...) is Urban Breed...love his voice...like a grittier Bruce Dickinson.

This album was the last one to employ a full-time keyboard player, and it shows in the sound...more key layers (not noodling, just textures & accents)...they had 2 guitarists on the Century Media stuff (this one is on Black Mark).

They use keys kind of how Lion's Share did on their first 2 albums...actually, Lion's Share & Angel Dust would be 2 more to compare this album to...

ANY Tad Morose is worth a listen. they are a fantastic band.

I haven't heard anything with Joe on vox yet. but he did ok with Annihilator, so i'll wait & see.

i did prefer Urban to Kristians vox though.

I haven't heard the one that's pictured, but I have TM's UNDEAD, MATTERS OF THE DARK and MODUS VIVENDI and they all rule, I'd say UNDEAD is my favorite though,,, Urban Breed has one of the best sets of pipes in metal right now. Shame he had to split this band (though the one album he did with Bloodbound is just as good as his T.M. work), it'll be interesting to hear what they can do with Joe Comeau in his place...

Bloodbound sound a LOT like Iron Maiden to me...I like it!

Yeah, I hope Joe Comeau does well with the band...

I don't recall being blown away with his vocals in Annihilator, but I do like the stuff Joe did with Liege Lord back in the day.

Yea, Bloodbound is good stuff. I don't quite get why they do the "corpse paint" thing but they definitely rock, kind of a Maiden/Helloween hybrid. Too bad Urban Breed only did the debut album with them. Although the second one (w/Michael Boorman on vox) is no slouch either.

It's about time somebody mentioned these guys, they are my favorite band from the recent past. I love their first three albums (+ an E.P.), as they were much more progressive than they are now. "A Mended Rhyme" and "Sender of Thoughts" are awesome. Really the closest comparison for power/prog that I know of would be Veni Domine's "Album of Labour". Lion's Share was great melodic metal, but not as dark or proggy as Tad Morose IMO. While recent Tad Morose is a great metal band, I miss the keyboards. I almost feel that Morifade has more continuity with the old TM than the newer TM does. If anybody knows any other bands that sound anything like this, I'd love to know about them.

Tad Morose is one of the bands I hear so many good things about, but I have never really gotten into them. I do own a compilation CD with them though, and any band covering vintage Savatage chould be an instant favorite of mine!

Turns out I own more CD's from this band, but I've yeat to listen to any of them....

Band news if anyone cares...

Guitarist Christer "Krunt" Andersson of Swedish metallers TAD MOROSE has commented on the band's current status via the following posting at the band's official forum:

"We are proud to announce the new lineup! After a few years with various problems it feels great that we now are a working band again! Things just didn't work out the way we wanted with Joe Comeau [ex-OVERKILL, ANNHILATOR, LIEGE LORD. He is an excellent singer and a very nice guy, but it just didn't work out for us in the long run. We only did three shows and recorded a two-track demo with him. We wish him all the best!

"The new singer is Ronny Hemlin (STEEL ATTACK). Ronny is a very, very good singer and fits perfect! Check out his work with STEEL ATTACK and you will know what I mean.

"The new bass player is Tommi Karpanen (ex-MORGANA LEFAY), a long time friend who also play bass in SEFER JEZIRAH and guitar in GOD AWFUL MACHINE.

Tad Morose = awesome.

I still want to hear the pre Urban breed stuff, but 'Rhyme' and everything after is great. 'Modus Vivendi' is probably my favorite.

I hope they are able to finally put out another one soon..

Funny this thread pops back up, as I have Tad Morose's UNDEAD in my stack of to-be-played CDs for today.

Shame that they couldn't make it work with Comeau, I'm not familiar with Steel Attack, are they any good? Will that guy be a good fit for TM?

If the latest Morgana LeFay was anything like 'Grand Materia' Sleep, I would say they should just get Charles Rytkönen from that band too. Razz He guested once already on 'Matters of the Dark' and sounded great. Plus, you don't come across too many singers named Charles.

The pre-Urban stuff is a lot like Rhyme, so if you like Rhyme you should like that too. God help me for saying this, as I want to avoid any landmines today (I've got a headache); but I felt after "A Mended Rhyme" Tad Morose simplified their their sound a bit (from doomy prog to heavy metal); perhaps yes to make it more marketable (granting that I can't read their minds). Hopefully the old sound is back, but since the band is not my personal property I wish them well in doing whatever they need or want to do to remain a viable and profitable recording act and touring entity. Like many bands their 2000's sound doesn't please me as much as their 90's sound, but I can and do appreciate it for what it is.

I liked M.L.'s "GRAND MATERIA" but wasn't too crazy about the most recent one (ABERRATIONS OF THE MIND).

It does seem to divide a few fans, though most seem to prefer the newer stuff. As a whole though, their brand of heavy metal isn't super marketable at all these days. I think the prog thing would definitely have gotten them further if that's what they wanted. Thankfully most fans seem to like both pretty well.

Maybe I'll see if I can find anything to listen to from the first one...

I just went to the Steel Attack MySpace, hadn't heard them anyhow so I get to accomplish two things at once. I think the first reaction from fans may be that dreaded criticism that Ronny sounds 'generic' for the style...less immediately distinctive than breed... while the latter is true, I can hear how it may work, during the parts where he puts more 'guts' into the line, and he can certainly get the job done on a technical level. Regardless, the songs are going to have to be just killer for the album to be well received I think..it's an uphill battle.

I think things have changed to where their original style has become more marketable than it was when "Krille" left ten years ago. Whether this will trigger another sylistic shift back toward a more progressive sound I have no idea. I hope so, but again I've yet to hear them do anything that wasn't good whatever the emphasis.
