I too am a fan of good country. Heath needs to hear some Vern Gosden or Johnny Cash.

Any pre early 80's country can be anywhere from OK to good - especially the
Christmas stuff....but to actually answer the question:

The Devil Went Down To Georgia!!!:metal:

I like the fiddle big time and it makes any song sound better, which is
why I guess I like Folk Metal so much...

I am a big fan of Johnny Cash. I liked him before it became popular to like him, again. My favorite songs by him are, A Boy Named Sue, and Darlin Companion. I used to have alot of stuff by him, now just one cd

I am not a fan of country at all, but their are a few country songs I like. "The Devil Went Down to Gerogia" is a really catchy country song, and I like it. But other than that, country blows.

I like "Theres a Tear In My Beer" by Hank. To bad the idiots at myspace that make fan pages don't have that song up. I will end up buying something by him, just to hear that song

I actually programmed/DJ'd (morning show) a country radio station for several years. I have met a LOT of country stars as well, including Waylon, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson (sat on his bus with him). Cash and Merle Haggard are two of my all-time favorite singers of any style.

Some I have met...

Alan Jackson (sat on his bus with him...INCREDIBLY shy)
Brooks And Dunn (Kix...nice guy; Ronnie...maybe he was having a bad day...)
Martina McBride (twice)
Faith Hill (twice)
Shania Twain
Chely Wright
Sawyer Brown (played basketball with Mark Miller the singer)
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Gibson/Miller Band
Confederate Railroad
Diamond Rio
Tracey Lawrence
Ricky Van Shelton (sat on his bus)
John Anderson (nicest guy I have EVER met in any music genre)
Mark Chesnutt
Chris LeDoux (also an incredibly nice guy...)
Kenny Chesney (before anyone knew who he was)
Aaron Tippin (lifted weights with him)
Chris Cagle
Dwight Yoakam (pretty quiet)
Waylon Jennings
Willie Nelson
Johnny Cash (my idol when I was a kid...I wanted to BE Johnny when I grew up...)
John & Audry Wiggins (one-hit wonders, but very nice people)
Billy Dean (very cool guy to talk to)
Pam Tillis (exceptionally friendly)
Bellamy Brothers

And there are many others... Did a lot of radio interviews as well....

Love Red Sovine. Some of his songs bring mist to my eyes all the time, like Phantom 309 and Teddy Bear.

I love old country and (gasp) new country. Johnny Cash, Red Sovine, Hank Williams Jr, George Strait, Craig Morgan....

I posted earlier in the thread, but seeing this mentioned
Quote:
Phantom 309
reminds me of one of my all-time favorite albums regardless of genre:

Put The Hammer Down!! It's a collection of trucker songs. My Dad used to be a truck driver and I have this on 8 track but have never been able to find it on Cassette or CD. Been wanting to upgrade this for decades, literally. I usually can't stand Country, but pre 80's Country can be OK and this album is chock-full of great, fun, fast, witty and well played and sung Trucker songs. Completely fantastic! I get chills when I hear any of these songs randomly played on the radio (rare, indeed). I still have 2 8-track players, but the heads are messed up, I guess, because 2 songs will play at the same time - one loud and up front and one in the back ground....so I have a great 8-track collection just collecting dust....Crying or Very sad
