| Several years ago, I was on a message board. Someone asked the question "What was the first R-rated movie you watched when you were a kid?" One reply said this: "I was six years old at the time. I don't remember the name of the movie, or much about it, but all I remember is that it was a really gory horror movie. I watched it with my dad. My mom got home shortly after the movie was over. After finding out we watched a movie, my mom watched a few minutes of it and was furious that my dad would let me watch the whole movie. However, she seemed OK with me having watched a few R-rated movies when I was eight or nine, and by the time I was 10 my mom didn't care about what I watched. But here is a truly sad story - I have a friend whose aunt won't let her 16 year old son watch The Simpsons." |

| that's not really disturbing. just kinda weird that she find that cartoon so inappropriate. it's her choice on how to raise her own kids though. at least she is involved in some way.
besides, he probably sees it at friends houses or whatever. _________________

| My Mom was SUPER anal about letting me see "age appropriate" movies when I was a kid... believe it or not, she wouldn't take me to see the original "Star Wars" when it was in theatres because it was rated "PG" and I was only seven years old at the time. She was convinced that if it was rated "PG" then there must have been something dirty in it. You'd think that she would've asked one of her friends who had kids (and who had probably let THEIR kids see "Star Wars" five or six times) if it was OK but that never happened. I DID finally see "Star Wars" in a theatre when it was re-released in 1981 but to this day, I dont' think I've ever quite forgiven her for causing me to miss out on a shared experience that virtually every other kid of my generation was part of. (Getting off soapbox now) Anyway, the very first R-Rated movie I ever saw was "Private Benjamin" with Goldie Hawn (on HBO) when I was about 12 years old. I remember one of the girls in the movie was topless for about two seconds and my Mom reached over to try and cover my eyes, and my Dad finally said "For cryin' out loud, leave the kid alone, he's been stealing my Playboy magazines out of my drawer since he was eight, he KNOWS what they look like!" They never had a problem with me watching The Simpsons though (I guess cuz I was in college when the Simpsons came along, haha)
