My favorite killer-creature flick is Lake Placid. You gotta love a movie with a giant crocodile that takes down a helicopter. Plus it also has a swearing Betty White.

Hey, Toho... I was wondering when you were gonna chime in on this!

Yea, "Lake Placid" is hilarious. Betty White totally steals that movie. Sweet, grandmotherly looking but foul mouthed little old ladies equals instant humor.

Have you ever seen the made-for-Sci-Fi Channel sequel to "Lake Placid" starring John Schneider of "Dukes of Hazzard" fame? Awful... absolutely awful. And when you're talking about Sci-Fi Original movies, that's really sayin' something.

I heard they made a sequel to Lake Placid and I heard it was terrible. If SciFi Channel was behind it, it had to be awful.

I read an article on these Asylum guys in Wired magazine a couple weeks ago. They make no bones about ripping off bigger budgeted movies and their titles are hilarious.

"The Day The Earth Stood Still" vs "The Day The Earth Stopped".

Yea, they got balls the size of church bells. I wonder why they haven't been sued out of existence yet, to be honest. They're not subtle at all. In their hands, "Transformers" becomes "Transmorphers," "Halloween" becomes "Halloween Night," "War of the Worlds" becomes "H.G. Wells' War of The Worlds," and "I Am Legend" becomes "I Am Omega." They're pretty much banking on people dumb enough to pick up "their" version at Blockbuster, thinking it's the "real" movie.

"Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus" is the first of their movies I've seen but I got such a kick out of it that I'm curious enough to check out some of their other wares.

How'bout this soon-to-be-classic?

Geez, could they get any MORE blatant??

This one stars William Katt (of "Greatest American Hero" fame...I thought that guy was dead!) and Michelle Pfeiffer's less famous sister DeeDee... how can you miss with casting like that?

The Day The Earth Stopped stars C. Thomas Howell.

That's the other thing that cracks me up with these guys. They get Z list "actors" for their movies.

Even the lettering is a ripoff.

Yeah, they got Bruce Boxleitner ("Scarecrow and Mrs. King") for one of the "Transmorphers" movies too. Hey, I guess even Z-listers gotta eat.

I am all over it when the Tiffany vs. Debbie movie comes out. The Megashark movie was hard to watch, but then at the same time it was very satisfying for me. Smile

It went down quite well for me. Of course, I had an ample supply of malted beverages on hand...

I got one that tops that by a mile, if you love cheesy movies.

Drum roll.....

Tentacles (1977).

Talk about a movie being so bad, that it was good, Tentacles like that of Orca was feeding off the Jaws phenomena. The movie was downright ridiculous from the start as the opening scene shows a baby stroller a few hundred yards on shore. I believe the mother got distracted, and all of a sudden they cut to the next shot where they show the stroller a few hundred yards out into the ocean. Absolutely classic, and to think that Henry Fonda was in this movie makes it even funnier.

Let's see "On Golden Pond" or "Tentacles"???

I wonder which movie Henry was more fond of???

I saw that one years and years ago. The baby-stroller shot is about all I remember from it.

"Tentacles On Golden Pond" - A giant squid attacks several generations of a family dealing with the past at a cabin in the woods. Staring Hanoi Jane and Henry Fonda

I preferred the porn parody, "On Golden Blonde"

Asylum movies have a lot in common with porn, now that I think about it. The titles are similar to blockbuster movies, they rush'em into production and release'em to video around the same time the "big" movie gets released... they're like porn movies without the porn!!

I saw Conan O'Brien interviewing Alyson Hannigan of "Buffy" on his show years back and he brought up "Muffy," he asked her if she'd seen it. She was like "Uh, no, but I heard they really put their own original spin on it." Laughing very hard

Best title I ever saw was "Indiana Joan and the Black Hole of Mammoo." I swear, I am not making that up.

... OK, how soon before this thread goes totally downhill? Maybe we oughta go back to discussing the Mega Piranha now.
