It appears that my work computer has some sort of filter that will censor my ability to log on to any web site that I visit "too often". Anybody heard of anything like this? Fair enough I guess, but I'm afraid that I might disappear from this board all of a sudden soon. There is already a sports board that I can't access anymore that I used to frequent. Today I couldn't find HOM except by going through Scott's site. Again fair enough, but it sucks anyway!

Me too!

I'm actually surprised I can still get to the boards from work. They restrict all game sites, anything related to violence (which means I can't peruse bloody-disgusting.com, a horror movie site), Craigs List and even Photobucket. I keep waiting for the day the block message boards.

May not happen though because there are useful IT message boards where you can get helpful programming info.

We have tons of sites filtered out - fortunately HoM isn't one of them. We can;t get to hotmail, yahoo mail, etc

The whole filtering thing is funny, because we spend more time trying to find workarounds or other sites to visit than we would on the sites we WANT to go to. We're not going to actually WORK ya know... Cool

Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections tab --> LAN Settings --> uncheck the box under Proxy Server (if it's checked off). Often that's all you need to do to bypass these things.

This has happened where my fiancee works. Is the filter system "smart" or is it just tech guys going in and putting a cap on stuff? Either way, her workplace's internet access has been slowly whittled down only to sites from companies they do business with.

What sucks is that there are some really slow nights during the summer, really slow. I won't have anything to do but polish my door knob.

Just out of curiousity, I checked and the security people have disabled the LAN Settings button.

It always amazes me how many people spend all day here from work.

Don't you guys feel at all guilty? What kind of job lets you be here all day? Do you not have anything to do?

great come back. it only took you 24 hours too. did you have to wait until you got back to work to respond, so you could do it on your employers dime?

Plenty, but I'm an efficient worker.

Firefighter....we're at the station 24 hours so once all chores & training is done....when we're not called out on a run we are at the station living. We spend 1/3 of our lives at the Station so looking for something to do is important. I read, chat here, practice my guitar, lift weights, run on the treadmill, etc.....

Of course, there are "Smurf hits the fan days" when ALL of that is out the window.

I can understand Scott. He's not expected to work for 24 straight hours while at the station.

I'm working on computers all day doing graphics, so I'm always just a click away from the HoM. Right now it's our slow time, so yea, I do have the time to goof off. I'll be more busy come late September. And lastly, no, I don't feel at all guilty.

I work a 24 every 3rd day. So, I'm on 1 off 2, on 1 off 2.....it's really a great schedule because for those 48 hours I'm off I see my family constantly. Unlike a lot of dudes, I don't work a second job for that very reason....I can spend time with my girls.
