I didn't know that was a cover. Who did the original?

Her name eludes me. Try Google Very Happy

Geez, I gotta do work on a Friday? Alright, here we go.

According to AllMusic.com, Gonna Get Close to You was originally written & performed by a woman named Lisa Dal Bello from her 1984 album Whomanfoursays. Other than being a Canuck, it should be noted that the guitar on that album was performed by Mick Ronson, whom some might recognize as David Bowie's guitarist from his "Spiders from Mars" days. After that, she didn't do much except writing the lyrics for Nena's 80's hit 99 Red Balloons.

QRs version isn't all that spectacular heard next to the original. It's essentially a carbon copy.

I kind of like the original a bit more. The vocals seem a bit more crazy and twisted and fit the lyrics and mood of the song better. She's no Geoff Tate, though.

Your right Eyesore, the original has way more panache and edgey creepiness than Queenryche's.

Compare the promo video's as well

I love PLACEBO's rendition of "Running Up That Hill" by KATE BUSH....

it's not as great as the original but it's a solid interpretation by a great band.

Indeed! They nailed that one. Also, their Black Sabbath cover "Sign of the Southern Cross" is outstanding!

Covers I like better than the originals?
Come Together - Aerosmith (orig. by The Beatles)
Dreams I'll Never See - Molly Hatchet (orig. by Allman Bros.)

Really? Always thought this cover was sort of lame. I'm a big Morty
fan, but this song was sort of butchered, especially the solo.

It's also my favorite Bloodgood song....but there's just something about how Morty did it in that live setting......I can't explain...

Good call with The Meatmen! They've got some solid covers. I gotta ask, though; When did they cover "How Soon Is Now?" It must be from a compilation or something, right? Maybe an obscure 7-inch? I have all their main albums, but I don't recall that song.

When did they cover "How Soon Is Now?"

"The World Still Won't Listen"
Too Damn Hype/Chord, TDH0018, USA, 1996
Too Damn Hype/Temperance, ??, USA, appr. 2001 with yellow cover
This is an album of covers by hardcore punk bands. Some of the acts don't even appreciate the music of the Smiths and participated only to gain exposure. Beware.
Songs followed by ** are also found on one of the artist's own release.

"Shoplifters Of The World Unite" - Dare To Defy
"London" - Down By Law
"You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" - A.C.(Anal Sailboat)
"What Difference Does It Make?" - Subzero
"How Soon Is Now?" - The Meatmen
"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" - H2O
"Handsome Devil" - Sweet Diesel
"Bigmouth Strikes Again" - Slapshot **
"You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby" - Screw 32
"Last Of The Famous International Playboys" - Leeway
"What She Said" - Youth Brigade **
"Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" - Vision
"Half A Person" - Edgewise
"Panic" - The Business **
"Sweet And Tender Hooligan" - 59 Times The Pain
"This Night Has Opened My Eyes" - Home 33
"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" - Walleye
"Back To The Old House" - Lament

Yep, that's the one. The cover is awesome, and is made even better by the fact that they had previously recorded a song called "Morrissey Must Die" on their War of the Superbikes 2 album. Tesco Vee's sense of humor is priceless sometimes! Laughing very hard

I didn't even like the Whitesnake version, but the Jorn version riffs.
