| Chris Impellitteri and Yngwie Malmsteen are thumb wrestling. Who wins the best out of three rounds?
I say Yngwie. Chris is arguably a faster (not better, mind you) guitar player, but Yngwie has big Fred Flintstone thumbs and could probably take Impellitteri in 2 rounds. |

| I'd say Impellitteri would win by forfeit, because Malmsteen's ego wouldn't be able to fit through the door _________________

| I like them both. I think they both suffer from "lead guitarist syndrome". They tend to focus more on shred than writing quality riffs and songs.
I remember hearing the first Ynqwie album back in the 80's. I was already a fan from seeing him with Alcatrazz and being a Steeler fan. However, the Rising Force album blew me away. I even got to see the band on their "Rape and Pillage Tour" for that album. Jeff Scott Soto was the vocalist. They played songs from the first two albums, although I don't recall if the second album was actually released yet or not.
A couple years later Impellitteri came along with his first EP. The clerk at the music store claiming he was faster and better than Yngwie. Not sure if that is true or not, but I was blown away. He had the incredible Rob Rock on vocals. I've liked both guitarists ever since.
I voted for Impellitteri as I tend to listen to his music the most. _________________

I hear ya. Been listening to Yngwie since the eighties, but have only heard of Impelliteri in recent years. If he was around in the late eighties, I can't remember him. His stuff sounds pretty frickin' bad arse (wish we could swear a little on here, heh-heh), but not quite as good as Yngwie from what I have heard. I doubt that he can match Yngwie, but I would be interested in hearing some Impelliteri albums. |

| I got into Impellitteri in the late 1980's. Think his first EP was released in '87. _________________

| Chris Impellitteri (born September 25,1964 in Connecticut) is a guitarist. According to Guitar One Magazine, he is the second fastest shredder in the world, but it is not uncommon for him to be ranked first on other fastest player lists. His influences range from rockers such as Eddie Van Halen, Uli Jon Roth and Randy Rhoads, Yngwie Malmsteen to fusion players like Al Di Meola. Note this from an article from a few years ago, I will try to dig up my old Guitar World interview from 1989 and give you the month the interview hit the stand, who wrote it and the exact quote. |

I couldn't find the article where Impelliterri cites Yngwie as an influence, the only thing I found citing this was Wikipedia, since I don't consider that a reliable source, I will withdraw my asseration that Impellitteri stated Yngwie as influence. I could swear i read that, but maybe I just thought he was due to the neo classical tag. Oh well I like both, but prefer Yngwie over Impellitteri. |
