I highly doubt it, for a number of reasons. First off, a few of those guys weren't really interested in playing in this style anymore, so where this sounds natural, had the "classic" line up been on board, I have a feeling it would've come out forced.
Where Dave really hit it out of the park was pairing Chris Poland with Vinnie Colaiuta. Which, like Poland and Samuelson before was a duo of two musicians heavily influenced by jazz and masters of improv (Vinnie was an integral member of Frank Zappa's touring band for a few years). Not to mention, as it was originally intended as a solo project, and then Megadeth's swan song, Dave sounds like he said "Screw it, Im making an album I WANT to make" and wrote a set of truly inspired songs that wasn't reaching in vain to impress the old crowd, or stressing for chart success. |

| I remember reading about Megadeth disbanding and I was disappointed. At the time I had discovered them maybe a few years earlier and had finished rounding out the back-catalog. A few years later, I hear that Megadeth is back with a new album. I went with my dad onto a military base and I saw they had the new album. The cover was different than the one you see everywhere else. Didn't get it then since I didn't have money. (Kinda wish I had just for the alternate cover.)
First chance I got, I was at Hastings to pick up a copy. I felt like it blew "World Needs a Hero" out of the water. "Blackmail the Universe" was intense, and "Kick the Chair" kicked my ass. I loved those songs. I wasn't even upset that those were the only thrash songs. Though it has an ebb 'n flow I liked every track on the disk. |

| I seem to remember a video for Back In The Day. Man, I almost cried when I heard Dave was back and was ecstatic that Poland was on board. This is such a great comeback, no apologies here just an amazing album. I think the bass is great on this too, Sloas needs some recognition as he's been around awhile. |

| System has failed is by far one of my favorite Megadeth releases, its what turned me into a "Casual" listener into a fan well that and Youthasia (however its spelt) When that came out i heard nothing but good things about it, I bought it and was blown away. I love it when i can buy a CD and feel like ive been floored, doesnt happen often but its a permanent favorite when it does happen
I give it a 10/10 |

| TSHF is a great album! I remember buying it at Hastings in Rio Rancho the day it was released and I was instantly floored. I think one thing that makes 'Deth great is the dialogue. I remember when I heard Poland was on board I wasn't too thrilled b/c I've never been fond of his tone or style but he kicked some major arse on TSHF, and IMO his best solo is on Tears In A Vial. The only song I think is kind of a drag is Of Mice And Men and the only thing that's missing is Ellefson's cool bass intros! I give TSHF a 9 out of 10. |

| My least favorite Deth album. There are some great songs (Blackmail the Univers, The Scorpion, and Kick The Chair in particular) but there are also a lot that sound bland and uninspired (Shadow Of Death, Truth Be Told...). Overall, I like it, but it's too much Dave and not enough Megadeth. |

| I like all Megadeth from the debut to "The system has failed", (except So far So Good, So.. disapointed we were when it was released. The mix was annoying,we didn't like the songs, or riffing for half the album. It has taken 20 years for me to be able to listen through the whole album in one sitting.)
I liked RISK, not much for a year or so, but it grew on me. Now I LOVE RISK.
United Abominations did nothing for me, but I liked the non-album/Japan only/b-side tracks I was able to listen to.
New album Endgame (2009) is their heaviest album since Rust In Peace. I like the lyrics from what little I looked at, but after a few spins, I wish TSHF was their last album.
Their compilation "Greatest Hits/Back To the Start" (2005) included "Live at the Fillmore"(Auditorium,Denver,Colorado. 12-27-99. 7 songs. total time = 44 minutes dvd. The sound and camerawork is ok, but the band does not look too happy.

I agree too. I'd have to re-listen, but my first impression of the remixed albums was almost all of them were ruined. So Far So Good So What, I was able to finally listen to what was being done there, with the new mix. Strange, but now after I understand, I'm able to appreciate the original mix.
Just totally reminds me of Ozzy and Sharon re-recording, not just remixing the Ozzy catalog just so they don't have to pay royalties to certain musicians. |

| All I like is 'The Scorpion' and 'Back in the Day' to an extent. This is pretty boring metal, and there's audio clipping all over the place.
Also I love the remixes except for the little vocal parts here and there in 'RIP' where there had to be re-recorded vocals..do not want. |

| United Abominations (May 15th 2007)1. Sleepwalker 2. Washington Is Next! 3. Never Walk Alone...A Call To Arms 4. United Abominations 5. Gears Of War 6. Blessed Are The Dead 7. Play For Blood 8. A Toue Le Monde (Set Me Free) 9. Amerikhastan 10. You're Dead 11. Burnt Ice Bonus track on Japan version: 12. Out On The Tiles (Led Zeppelin cover) Bonus track on pre-order version: 12. Black Sawn After constant touring for two installments of Gigantour, Megadeth finally re-entered the studio to record it's next album in May of 2006. This would be the first release to feature Glen Drover (guitar), Shawn Drover (drums), and James Lomenzo (bass). A quite adept line-up, who even on an album that spews as much venomous thrash as it can manages to show their proggy elements quite adeptly and tackle the more complex parts with ease. Content wise, this is Megadeth's(though by this point its more like the Dave Mustaine show) most political album since Rust In Peace with Dave ranting vehemently his opinion on everything thats been happening in the world the past few years. Music wise, this album is great! The Drover brothers prove to be an awesome tandem, knocking out explosive beats and mind melting guitar parts galore.James Lomenzo also carries his part of the rhythm section well with some extra chumky bass lines. Dave sounds in true form here as well, as aggressive as ever before, not only in his vocals, but his riffs and writing style as well. These are easily some of his most complex/prog influenced pieces since the early 90's, as well as plenty of hooky riffs that'll get your head rattling! Another great thing about this record is variety. Not all the songs are written in the same style of thrash, while you have your faster aggressive pieces (Sleepwalker) you also get the more slowed down groovier/streamlined ones (United Abominations) but both are pulled off with aggresive perciseness not heard on a Deth record in quite a long time, they basically sound re-created here. Unfortunately, as had become the trend with recent Megadeth platters, its got some shortcomings. For one some songs pick up that annoying habit of sounding hastily written/boring, or like Megadeth covering Megadeth. Oh, and A Tout Le Monde, while it does sound heavier here, didn't need to be re-recorded, or it could've been released as a single, Id much rather have their cover of Out On The Tiles here in place of it. Overall, despite it's inconsistencies, it's a great Megadeth record worth owning. Killer tracks: Sleepwalker, Washington Is Next!, United Abominations, Gears Of War, Blessed Are The Dead, Play For Blood, You're Dead

Other than a few tracks, ("You're Dead", "Play For Blood", and "Amerikhastan" in particular) UA is awesome all the way through. |

| Great album indeed! Although I find the lyrics a little too forced both politically and Biblically. Glen did a great job on the solos, he didn't seem like a one trick pony who could only play a million mph. A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free) sucks! Faves: Sleepwalker, Never Walk Alone...A Call To Arms, Blessed Are The Dead & You're Dead. |

| No complaints about UA as it pretty much picked up where THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED left off. Fast, angry and shredding aplenty. What's not to like? The re-do of "A Tout Le Monde" would've probably been better left as a B-side, but hey, Dave wanted to resurrect what he felt was a very important song that didn't get a fair shake the first time. I read an interview with Dave in Metal Hammer around the time of the album's release where he talked about how nice it was to work with Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil on "A Tout Le Monde," and sez "I hope it helps her band's career." Uh... Earth to Dave... her band sure as hell doesn't need your help. Dave also sez that originally he wanted Lisa Marie Presley (!) to record the female vocals for that track but she became unavailable at the last minute. That would've been...well... interesting. _________________ "God's the ultimate playa, so naturally He's going to have some haters," rapper Ice Cube said. | Got this one on the day or release and spun it many, many, many times since then. One of my favorites later releases. The only tune I'll occasionally skip is 'A Tout...' simply because it drags down the momentum of the album. I agree that it was a pointless and unnecessary remake that would have made for a better b-side. I'd like to have copies of the bonus tracks someday too. Maybe if/when this album gets re-issued. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007
