| I have often thought of listening to my entire CD collection from beginning to end in an alphabetical and chronological order. Of course, I have yet to o so. Has anyone ever attempted this or done this? |

| Yes, Ive attempted it. Takes a mighty long time, but my problem is I get in the mood to hear certain music, and I made it about halfway through before I ran into something I didnt really want to listen to that day. But really, I think itd take me at least a year of constant listening to get through just the metal. |

| The thought has crossed my mind from time to time but no, I've never tried it. I do go through phases where I'll listen to a particular band's entire discography from start to finish but it would take for-EVER to do it with my entire collection. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| See that's the thing, I would get in the mood to hear something else and I wouldn't be able to for fear of breaking the order. Also, if I grabbed a new album from a favorite band, I would have to wait until they came up in the rotation (or maybe they have already been passed?) to be able to hear it and discuss it here on HoM. |

| Same here. I thought of starting with "A" and listening to every one of my discs. Didn't even make it through my AC/DC discography. I recently tried to go through the entire discography of Savatage, to follow along with the discussions here and I couldn't make it past Fight For The Rock. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

I'm finally finishing mine. I had all my cds catalogged on cd-tracker.com, but they went belly-up a few years ago and I never bothered to update my stuff. Just roughly estimating, I thought I had about 1200 cds. The actual number is closer to 1500, so I don't see myself listening to them in A to Z order anytime soon. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

That's where I had mine too. Fortunately before they went under, I discovered an export feature they had. I exported my entire collection to a file which I then loaded into Excel. It's just been a matter of maintaining it since then. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

Didn't know about that. I just copy & pasted my info, but it came out all f'ed up with grids and lines. I just scrapped it & started from scratch. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| It figures they went out of business. I spent 5 consecutive vacation days entering all my CDs into CD Tracker and less than 6 months later, they close. I was damned sure gonna find a way to not have to duplicate all work again. Fortunately, I found the export feature. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| I did it once and it only took about a 6 months. This was also back when I was still in High school I believe so my collection at the time wasnt very big. Now I have a gazillion more so it will definetly take me longer than 6 months. When I first did it I start from A and went all the way through to Z no problem. Some bands I couldnt wait for albums to finish but I managed to get through it. I tried doing this again last year. I made it all the way up to I. I was listening to the 3rd or 4th Iron Savior album and I got some new cds so I decided to listen to those and then I never finished where I left off. I also figured that since I had some gaps in some of the bands discographys that maybe I should wait until I complete most of them before I get too much further into this. A few weeks ago during work I couldnt decide what to listen to. So I was thinking why dont I try listening to all my cds again, but instead of going through each band at a time why not listen to each album from A-Z? Since I have an ipod it puts that all in order for me so I dont have to guess haha and so far it has been a great idea. This way I get to listen to everything and I dont get burnt out on listening to one band constantly. So far I have listened to 19 albums within 2-3 weeks. Its going to take a while to complete this but this actually is interesting to see which album i'll be listening to next. Id say give this way a try. _________________ |

I was going to point that out when I saw your first post in this thread but I didn't want to be a dick. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"
