| Sonic Boom rocks, and is definitely in my top ten KISS records. There's not a whole lot to say about it, it's just KISS doing what they do best: play loud and heavy rock 'n' roll! |

| I'm not near the fan-boy level of some of the other members of the board, but I'd agree that this is the best KISS album since Revenge. The songs are catchy as hell and capture that 70's vibe. The only song I don't care for much is 'Danger Us' but even that one rattles around in my head. I've got no problem with the album artwork. It stands out, looks good enough for me. At least it looks like they put some effort into the artwork & packaging of the whole thing. That in of itself is becoming a rareity in the age of digital downloads. As mentioned before, the bonus disc is a cool addition, but not something I woud've otherwise purchased. I have yet to watch the DVD and probably won't. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| Holy crap, we're already on Sonic Boom? It's a great album. When they promised a record that sounded like "Something between R&RO and Love Gun", they weren't kidding. It definitely sounds like classic KISS, and everything feels natural; not forced at all like certain parts of Psycho Circus sound. Tommy and Eric, although certainly no Ace and Peter, are adequate replacements (but the makeup thing irks me a little, too) and both sing surprisingly well. Just a good ol' cheesy as hell hard rock record. |

| I like Sonic Boom well enough, there's not a stinker in the whole bunch. One thing that's missing (since they said it was Classic Kiss) is the doubling of hard riffs with an acoustic guitar counter-part a la C'mon And Love Me & Makin' Love. I like how Kiss implemented it on their records and even on Ace's '78 solo album. Eric & Tommy donning the Cat Man and Space Ace respectively is utter blasphemy though. |

| it is enjoyable album. it is good. but imo it is very steril. i dont feel that old energy from old albums. it is like made for markets and make $ not for fans. yes i could be possibly wrong but i feel it that way. |

Thanks to a slow economy, too many compilations already and no other bidders, I was able to obtain a near-mint copy of Ikons on ebay for $10.99 (free shipping). The outer slipcase has some minor wear, but otherwise the set is mint. As for the music, for a guy like me that doesn't have much Kiss to begin with, it's a pretty awesome overview of the make-up era. It's got all the hits I could ask for, plus a few deeper cuts that I've never heard. The biggest bonus of course is having all the Ace tracks on 1 cd. SCORE!! I'd place the Gene disc 2nd as far as likeable songs, Paul in 3rd and the Catman dead last. He's got a few really good songs, a few ok songs and then a buncha clunkers. I gave each disc a fair shake, listening to them all the way through (Ace got multiple spins) at least once. But darn if it wasn't a struggle not to hit the skip button when it was time to listen to Peter. I can see 3 of these 4 discs getting regular spins from me. Peter's will make a nice coaster. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

That's a great deal for the discs and a great overview of Ace sung tunes! Peter's output went from good to bad on Love Gun. His solo album on vinyl makes a great frisbee!!! |

| I couldn't believe I actually won. There was actually one other bidder. The auction started at $9.99. I put in a max of only $15 figuring I'd be outbid for sure. In the words of Dokken "I Just Got Lucky". _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

| For Christmas I got 'Sonic Boom' and love it. Definitley better than 'Psycho Circus' and the retro feel to the songs makes this album a fun listen. Not a filler in the set and I even enjoyed the re-recordings of the second disc, while I see this disc as pointless, it was still enjoy able disc. |

| Guys, stop buying those compilations!!! Alive IV: Symphony - Excellent release. The band was on fire, the crowd was hot and unlike some of those symphony-meets-rock band releases, the orchestra actually complimented the songs. Great DVD too. Although I wouldn't say she's a "fan", this was the album that finally made my girl understand what makes KISS so cool! Sonic Boom - Made #1 on my best of '09 list. I'd love for KISS to keep making new music, but even if this really is the final studio release -- at least it took that distinction away from the disappointing Psycho Circus. "Say Yeah", "I'm An Animal" and "Modern Day Delilah" are instant classics. |

| My oldest son got me "Sonic Boom" for Christmas and I think KISS has hit this one out of the park! Catchy, hook-filled songs with typical, but enjoyable lyrics. It has been in my car stereo since I got it. Great stuff!
I have been reacquainting myself with the back catalog as well. I scored a used copy of the remaster of ALIVE! last week as well. I had forgotten what a great listen that album is. Overdubs or not, the energy from that performance just blasts out of the speakers. I can't believe that I waited so long to upgrade this! |

KISS - Ace Frehley
1978 Casablanca Records
Side One:
1. Rip It Out
2. Speedin' Back To My Baby
3. Snow Blind
4. Ozone
5. What's On Your Mind
Side Two
1. New York Groove
2. I'm In Need Of Love
3. Wiped-Out
4. Fractured Mirror
The solo album everybody has been waiting for - I save the best of the four for last. Ace Frehley unleashed his monster 1978 solo album upon the world. Gene Simmons through Ace's would suck and didn't think he would get it done in time. Of course, as we know know, Ace's outsold Gene's.
Ace hit the studio and smartly called his favorite producer, Eddie Kramer, to co-produce the album. Ace also brought in Anton Fig to play drums. Anton would become a long time Ace friend, playing in Frehley's Comet. Of course, Anton went on to fame as the drummer of the David Letterman's onstage band. Will Lee, who also went on to Letterman's onstage band, plays base on three tracks (Ace plays bass on the rest).
At the time, KISS fans did not know what to expect from Ace, as he had only sung lead on two songs prior to the album's release. Singing on the album ould help Ace overcome his fear of singing. The album was mostly recored in Ace's home studio.
Ace's album was the only solo album with a hit single, "New York Groove", which reached number 13 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. The song would be performed on several KISS tours and Ace would perform this one as a solo artist live.
In my opinion, this is the best of the solo albums and the one that has received the most play from me over the years. Ace's solo effort is all killer, no filler. This is an awesome release. From the opening of "Rip It Out" to the end of the incredible instrumential track, "Fractured Mirror". This is an album I still love to this day.
Because of the success of this album and Ace's ability to overcome his fear of singing, Ace would have more songs on the next two KISS albums.
What do you think of this one? |
I Love this album!!!!!! I thought it was very well done, course my first exposure to Ace was Anomaly but now Im on a mission to buy all Kiss albums that have Ace on it hehe, Ace RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
