I don't know if this could count since the band did only 5 albums as far as I know, and are doing a new one.

(this will be my first review ever)The Self title album from Bloodgood is a masterpiece to my ears, from the beginning to the end. Even thought there are those chorus on the background that I could say are very present on church, don't make the album less metal, but it gives it a more unique style to the band.
Les Carlsen has a very discintive voice, this songs are very catchy, the chorus the riffs, and soloings. My favorite songs from the album are ANGUIS AND PAIN, and AWAKE! it is very fast, Carlsen uses his high pitches trought the whole song, great song. The lyrics are also something that is worthed to mention, they have a very powerfull message under they great songs.

Now it's time to re-release their material

I purchased this album as a new release. I was already a big metal fan but Christian metal was pretty new to me in the 80's. I knew of Stryper, so Bloodgood was cool. However, that opening part with "Accept the Lamb of the living God, accept the lamb of the living God" I always found incredibly cheesy. Otherwise, a great album. "Black Snake" is a killer song! I have this one on vinyl and CD.

I have this album paired with DETONATION on one of those crappy KMG Records "2-on-1" reissue CDs. Haven't listened to it in a while though. Decent album but I think I like DETONATION better. I agree with Ult about that "accept the lamb of the living God" chant being pretty goofy.

Bloodgood had their moments but when it came to Christian metal bands whose names began with "B," I always preferred Barren Cross.

I enjoyed the first two Bloodgood albums but felt they haven't held up well.

I also have that 2-1 edition, but in CDR, since their music is out of print, with the exeption of DETONATION wich is avalible on their site.
It's true that the opening is cheesy but I don't find it anoying, we have to consider its the beauty of the 80's era. Laughing

One of my all time favorite white metal albums. I know nostalgia play a big part in that. But the band also had sort of a unique sound, moslty thanks to Les voice. Stryper were LA Sunset Strip, Whitecross were Ratt-clones... but Bloodgood had something different going on.
Bloodgood appeared when white metal was still new to me. And back then almost every Christian metal band sounded great in my ears. Not every album has stood the test of time, but this one has. It's their first release, and in my opinion, still their best. Catchy heavy metal. There is no other way to describe it. The production isn't exactly top notch, so I would have loved to see this album remastered.

Killer tracks: Stand In The Light, Anguish And Pain, What's Following The Grave

I came into the game kinda late ( I became a christian in 1993) so I didnt know about Bloodgood until then, although they were one of the first bands I got into at the time. This album was actually the last one I found, somewhere around 1995, up til then I only knew the tracks from the "Collection" cd so it was cool discovering the other half of this album I hadnt heard. I havent heard it in quite a while but it still kicks butt and helped pioneer christian metal in a big way.

Another band I saw quite abit. (way back when) David Zaffiro is an amazing player, can tear it up but prefers to play for the song (IMHO)

I have the KMG dual disc thng and the s/t on vinyl. My take on the "accept the lamb..." accapela intro to the song is that it emphasizes
Christ is by Himself as God. Bloodgood was a very theatrical band. Not merely in flash but in dramatization of what the lyrics were saying.

I picked this one up as a new release back when it first came out - I still think it is a good album (a side from the aformentioned cheesy accapela into. Led has a unique voice and David is a fantastic guitar player,

BLOODGOOD - DETONATION

Detonation Is the only album available through their website. Detonation is as good as their last album BLOODGOOD, I could even dare to say that this album touches the power metal style like bands such as metal church. This albums got heavier, bigger screams, better production, and faster melodies,no ballads. The whole album is stellar, but the highlight songs from this album are "THE MESSIAH" and "CRUCIFY". I have this album on LP with lyrics, and merchandise page; showing some nice shirts they used to have.

Another great disc from Bloodgood, and probably even a better effort than the debut. I love the theatrical elements, and the melodic metal sound. "Alon in Suicide" ans "Crucify/The Messiah" are favorites.

On the topic of the opening to "Accept the Lamb", I've never had a problem with it. I like it because it is different.

Bloodgood definitely stepped it up a notch with this record, much better in every way (although I always thought the production was kinda thin and tinny sounding) but the musicianship was stronger and sharper. This was the first album I ever heard by them so as with most people the first is also their favorite, as this is mine. This was probably the last album by them that was raw and unpolished and they would soon be gaining popularity in christian metal circles.

If I could go back to the debut album.

I was working in a Christian Bookstore at the time and I was so excited when this record came out. I thought the album cover was amazing. Several small details in the cover that I thought were so cool (spear, cross, etc...)

After the album had been out for several weeks and I had pretty much annoyed the female staff with my fan boy love of this album... Anyway after a day off I came in the store and several of the ladies were saying "Oh we have something special for you" and I'm thinking 'what??' They had me this package and inside is a Bloodgood t-shirt signed photo and a few other odds and ends.

Apparently Mike had family in Berkeley (about 30 min from the store) and was visiting. They were asking about his album and unfortunatley he didn't have any with him. So he started to call around and after trying many different Christian bookstores (who had know idea who he was).... When he called where I was worked they answered in the affirmative. He came in and picked up several copies on cassette. The ladies who were working told him 'about this kid who knows ALL about your album'.... hense the package... I still have the photo, wore out the t-shirt tho....

The first album was Produced by Darrell Mansfield. Good sound all the way around, solid debut. They hid their influences pretty well. Highlights were 'Blacksnake' "Anguish and Pain", "You Lose" "Demon on The Run'.... "You Lose" was song Mike wrote and recorded with his previous band Cypress. He did the lead vocal on that particular tune. David Zaffiro show's why he was such a good guitar player on this disc. Some rather nice tasty licks. J.T. Taylor left after the album was released. If I remember right he went back and sold real estate.

Blacksnake was a preview of things to come with the forthcoming Detontation.....

Well....... when Detonation first came out... I didn't like it because the production was muddy and Mike had indicated there would be a 'thrashier' sound.... Not quite... I opened my big pen and wrote about it and got into lots lots and lots of HOT HOT water.....

However after I saw 'em 3x's on that tour (where they showed exactly how good of a band they were) and Dave Zaffiro ripped it up everynight...... I was beyond won over..... However my review had already been published and I ended up on everyone's poodoo list.... Cool

Over the course of time 'Detonation' has become Bloodgood's 'Back In Black' or 'Black Album' or 'White Album'.... the one disc that everybody want's to hear something from. From the psuedo thrash of Crucify, to fast tempo'd 'Battle of The Flesh' or the crunching 'Vagrant People' or 'Self Destruction'... this is Bloodgood at their heaviest and fastest. I wish this disc could be remixed so that the guitar would be more prominent which is how it shoulda been. The mix is more bass, vocal heavy but now 20 years later it doesn't matter.

'I'm a LIVE WIRE!!! LIVE WIRE'.....

This disc is perhaps their finest hour, definately some of the best artwork ever...

If I did this right... here's the photo.... and with much trepidation the offending review.... I would've written the review completely different now.... But as this album had such big expectations and nobody ripped on ANYONE back then. No one gave bad let alone scolding reviews.... There are such things as tack and professonalism.... Please forgive my arrogance and inexperience when you read what I wrote....
