| Chalk it up to the fact that I'm in a very 'non' metal mood lately - (I go on seasons like this to clean my metallic pallette). But I've been listening to a lot of pop and alternative stuff lately! yesterday I was cranking ABBA, today it was Coldplay. Does anyone here like Coldplay? They are very similar to U2 or Simple Minds. Both bands have been very influential on Coldplay. They play a particular style of alternative rock from the school of U2. So if you like U2, chances are - you'll like Coldplay. Anyone? |

| I liked them a bit around the time of their first and second albums. I've since basically become pretty indifferent to the band with maybe a bit of dislike thrown in there at times.
The U2 comparisons have always been there and since I was a pretty big U2 fan from their beginning through about Achtung Baby I almost feel as if I don't really need another band to try to replicate that experience for me. Coldplay songs for some reason don't seem to have that emotional connection for me like older U2 did. Maybe that's just a timing thing for me, can't relive the past and that sort of thing I guess.
I can see however how those who weren't into U2 at their height could really get into this band. |

| I have all of their albums. I remember getting into them when "Yellow" came out, off of their first album. I loved their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. I enjoyed X&Y but did not like it as much as the other albums. They more than made up for it with Viva La Vida. It is an excellent album throughout, like A Rush of Blood. I know there are alot of Coldplay-haters out there. But screw it. They are good, and, along with the Killers and the White Stripes, they are one of my favorite bands of the 2000's. |

| I never thought of it, but you're right, they are a tad U2-ish. The only difference is that I don't find U2 boring as hell. |

| I dont like them or U2, but I can understand your needing to switch gears from metal to something else time to time. I usually put on milla jovovichs divine comedy album or some other alternative or punk album when I feel that way. _________________ |

Cool! I am fairly new to Coldplay. I normally don't get into many newer alternative acts. I've been a U2 fan for many years though. So I was listening to the radio one day and "Lovers in Japan" came on. Really impressed me and I immediately got the 'U2' connection. Went out and bought "Viva La Vida" a few days later. That's the only one I have so far, but I think, like you, I'll probably end up with all their stuff eventually. |

What I hear is Dave Matthews (especially in the vokills) and everyone here knows how I feel about DMB. Regardless, of the current flock of massively popular bands I hate, this one is at the top of the list. To Metalblaze, I'd listen to Depeche Mode before this band's tripe. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| I really like Coldplay, and I have all of their albums. I have to admit that, "Viva La Vida" didn't do a whole lot for me. There are some really good songs, but as of right now, I don't their latest effort comes close to the previous three.
I first got into Coldplay, when "Rescue Me" used "Don't Panic" to close out the very first episode. Talk about a great clip....watch this. And if you haven't ever watched "Rescue Me", head off to your nearest video store immediately, Netflix it, or buy the seasons!

Ditto. Sorry, I just see Coldplay as boring. Simple Minds is a good band though, too bad they are only known for one song. |

To Metalblaze,
I'd listen to Depeche Mode before this band's tripe. |
I hate to disagree, but they sound nothing like DMB! They definitely have a more U2-vibe to them, especially in their orchestrations. Dave Matthews Band is more of a jam band, and sound nothing like these guys. I'd even agree to the Simple Minds comparison. In any case, I'd rather listen to Coldplay any day than most of the crap found in rock radio today, like Nickelback. |

I agree with Neuropete wholeheartedly! Dave Matthews Band is not even the same style of music. Jam Band or Jazz Fusion is what they are considered. Whereas Coldplay is just alternative rock.
Anyway ... |

| Im with Toho here. There is not one thing about this band that I find interesting. The vocals are horrid to me and there really is no songwriting. I never liked this style of music. I like a few U2 songs but in this vein I might have to go with Ben Folds Five.... |

Thank you. I absolutely abhor this band and it's because of two things. Crappy nasally vocals and self-indulgent songwriting. The band is obviously talented but IMO they have nothing to work with. And even if they did, the vocals would kill any enjoyment for me. But they move a lot of product so there must be a market for this tripe. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| They're a decent alt-pop band...catchy singles. The last CD they did (my wife is a fan) got a little progressive/late-Beatles in places which was cool...not a favorite but not bad...and they do NOT sound like Dave Matthews Band...LOL! But I can see someone comparing Chris' vocals w/ Dave Matthews a bit... |

Yeah, I noticed some of that. This album is my first exposure to Coldplay - so those progressive elements really kinda pulled me in. I think I'm gonna get the rest of their stuff now. |

| I have to eat some crow here. My daughter was playing Viva La Vida last night and I actually liked a couple songs. I was looking and production credits list Brian Eno and the U2 sound was strong in a few. Not something i'll listen to a lot but they've progressed to something I can handle. |
