Someone keeps sending me Def Leppard CDs in the mail. I don't know who it is, but now I have a copy of Adrenalize to review as well. Should I be expecting Hysteria as well?

Isn't it obvious? It's Eyesore...

I remember when this CD was released. Def Leppard fanatics worldwide were excited by the hype that the band was returning to their classic sound after releasing the atrocious alternative/grunge/rock album “Slang”. Once the album hit, cries of “a return to form” resounded. My thought was, “a return to what form?” Def Leppard haven’t released a really great album since “High n Dry”, or arguably “Pyromania”. Euphoria is an attempt to return to the slick, radio-pop formula of 'Adrenalize', and a weak attempt at that. Weak ballads, weaker rockers and even dance beats (see “All Night”). I find it hard to believe that a great guitarist like Vivian Campbell could find any satisfaction playing this stuff. Perhaps I am just too jaded when it comes to this band. I do like some pop rock bands, but for some reason Def Leppard’s music has left me cold since abandoning the hard rock and heavy metal of their early years. This album is just pure pop rubbish!

I actually listened to the album today and for some strange reason I actually agree with Eyesore that it's the best album since Hysteria if you don't include Retroactive. The only songs that really make my skin crawl are the weak ballads "Goodbye" and "It's only love" that sound like what James Blunt would sound like if he covered some of the ballads from Hysteria/Adrenalize sick and are just as cheesy as the song "Make Love like a man" and "I wanna Touch You".

80s metal/rock purists would absolutely hate this album because of the modern production and at times the songs sound Marilyn manson esque but not to the point it you'd completely notice and cringe. I suspect Def Leppard wanted to be influenced by the same artists as they were back in the Hysteria era but at the same time wanted to have a 1999 feel to the songs and be influenced by some of the flavour of the month bands back then but I think they did it well in most of the songs. However "Back in your face" sounds like a rip off from one of the songs from U2's Pop and it's one of their weakest songs on the album I may get used to it after a few repeated listens. "All night" sounds like they are covering a Prince song and it doesn't fit the album more suited for being a b side song to a movie soundtrack (ala Metallica's I disappear) 21st Century Sha La la girl is an annoying tune which sounds like a left over track from their predecessor Slang.

The standout tracks on Euphoria are Demolition Man, Promises, Paper Sun, Guilty, Day After Day (awesome guitar riffs)

This album is better than Adrenalize because the songs have more punch and the guitar riffs have a thicker texture and don't have a worn out feel as they do on Adrenalize. This a good effort by Def leppard this will never hold a candle to their 80s albums which will never be topped and I think this is the last good album they have done. X was worse than St Anger and almost on the same level as a Justin Timberlake album. Their recent album Sparkle Lounge is boring and poppy and unfortunately they have made the same mistake as they did on Slang by getting caught up with the recent fads by being influenced by this indie/garge rock craze
