I don't listen to this one very much compared to other Dio albums. But when I do I always like it.

Intermission is a live EP released by the band in 1986 to represent new member Craig Goldy. The live songs were done with Vivian Campbell on the Sacred Heart tour, however the guitar tracks were overdubbed by Goldy in the studio, with the exceptions of the solos which were remained untouched.

These "live" versions of the songs are great, although its too short! I'd love to hear an offical full length live album from Dio during them time. Time To Burn is okay, but its very poppy and really sound likes something they threw together for this release.

A nice live EP. Wish it would have been longer. "Time To Burn" sounds like a b-side from the Sacred Heart record. Not a bad track, but not one of their best either.

A nice little collector's disc and I finally upgraded my vinyl copy to CD earlier this year.

I had no idea that Goldy overdubbed all of the guitar parts, I always assumed it was Campbell.

'A Time to Burn' not a bad track but it sounds like a song that was quickly thrown together to showcase newboy Craig Goldy.

At least I'm not on your ignore list.

Back on topic:

'Intermission' is a live EP, with 1 new studio track. The live section was recorded at the Sports Arena in San Diego, CA, December 6th, 1985. As a live document this CD is a bit too short. And the inclusion of the new studio track, "Time To Burn", right in the middle of the live set creates an unnecessary break on such a short EP. Still, Dio sounds awesome live, be it on the man's own material, or on the medley containing some old Rainbow favorites. The new song is actually a quite good mid-paced rocker too. Just wish the live portion was longer. A full album would be nice, considering that this was Dio at his prime, both musically, and career wise.

As big of a Dio fan as I am, I don't really care for this too much. The reason is twofold:

1) it's just way to freekin' short. for cryin' out loud, it's live! Make it a full live album please!!! How hard could it have been to just put the whole concert on here? I just don't like the concept of this EP. And only one new song? At least make it two for the price of admission.

2) it's lame to have Craig Goldy go and play over Vivian's parts. That's a shame. That's nothing better than what Ozzy did when he had other musicians record over the original musicians on his first two albums.

So no, I'm not a fan of this EP.

The circumstances were a bit different. I mean its live, so its not like he tried to rewrite history or anything. In an interview Craig mentioned the reason they did this is because Vivian's guitar was horribly out of tune on the recordings.

If his guitar was out of tune, why did they keep the solos?

Not if there was something wrong with the guitar parts and they needed to be fixed. That's what Dio claimed at the the time.

You're not missing much. The only reason I even want it in my collection is because I'm an absolute completist when it comes to my favorite bands. I only need it for the collection - and that's literally it. I never listen to this one. Well, maybe once every blue moon.

I had no idea that was Goldy overdubbing the guitar parts, that being said listening to it last night, the CD is 33 minutes long which was the length of some full length albums back then.

I enjoyed the disc and I do hope that they do release a vintage Campbell era live album, while they are at it they should release 'Live in the Spectrum' with Campbell on DVD.

I don't think Ronnie will release anything new with Vivian, just for spite. I would love a live cd or dvd with Vivian playing.

DREEEEEEEAAAAAAAM EVIIIILL!!!!!

The first time I listened to this album I was at work with my iPod in and that pitch shifted voice came outta nowhere and scared the crap outta me.

Its my opinion that Craig Goldy came in and breathed new life into the band. The chemistry remained and in interviews Goldy mentioned that he was friends with Dio back around the Holy Diver era because Wendy managed his band Rough Cutt.

So the time came for Vivian to leave and lower the bar for himself and together the band wrote what I feel is a very strong album, on par with Holy Diver and Last In Line. I love the first three songs, which is a standard on all Dio albums up to this point. The riffing is much more involved and I can really tell Craig Goldy wanted to be there.

This was the first Dio album I listened to in it's entirety. And it is still one of my favorite albums, by the grandfather of metal! 'Dream Evil' is just filled to the brim with cool tunes. The die hard fans mumbles about the album being to commercial, but I don't care!! The music is great! There are less then memorable moments here as well, but the majority is just classic Dio! I think it sounds somewhat in the same vain as Black Sabbath's 'Heaven And Hell'. A must!!

Killer tracks: Dream Evil, All The Fools Sailed Away, I Could Have Been A Dreamer

I concur with the positive reviews of this one. I actually like this one moreso than "Sacred Heart", but not quite as much as "Holy Diver" and "The Last in Line". But it's close.

Very good album. Whether it's more commercial or not (which it is), it's a damn fine album.

Fave tracks:

1. I Could Have Been a Dreamer
2. All the Fools Sailed Away
3. Night People
4. Dream Evil

YES!!! One of the most underrated Dio album. Awesome album IMO, that is every bit as good as Holy Diver and Last in Line. I agree with Metallic Blaze on his favorite tracks too. All great tracks. Dio should resurrect some of these, should he get well and go back on the road.

Dio

The most underrated Dio platter and it has some of Dio's best songwriting, and album that holds up better than 'Scared Heart' and a stronger album IMO.

I remember when Craig Goldy joined I was bit worried seeing that he was in Giuffria, but he fit right in and for a brief moment in time breathed new life into the band.

I never got around to picking up this album till I "re-discovered" Dio in the early '00s (long story, I'll get to it when we reach the KILLING THE DRAGON album) but nowadays it's my favorite Dio CD. It doesn't have the so-called "hits" that HOLY DIVER or LAST IN LINE does, but I feel it's his most solid album overall.

"All The Fools Sailed Away" is most likely my favorite Dio track EVER!

I really love this album. Dio opened the set with Sunset Superman back in 2000 when I first saw them. I've seen them twice since and got no Dream Evil tracks, which has been a bummer.

Everyone loves the first half of the album, but I also think the second half is phenomenal. Lots of real underrated tracks. Naked in the Rain, Overlove, Could Have Been a Dreamer, Faces in the Window... all great tracks. The guitar parts are not overly complex, but Goldy sounds real good. I think the songs just work real well - someone said the album is commercial, I don't really agree. More like, infectious and well-written. It grabs your attention and doesn't let up. This was a great album the first time I heard it and I think I will give it a listen tonight and I am positive I WILL be entertained, again.

The album cover is a bit silly, but whatever - it's supposed to portray a nightmare, I guess. It has the mascot, always works.

I guess the Swedish band took their name from this album.

What else is there to say? Well, when I met my to-be-wife, I made a mix-tape for her and put Sunset Superman on it. I don't know why that song, it really doesn't make sense. I guess it's just a good song.

Favourite tracks: Sunset Superman, Naked in the Rain, Overlove
