Yngwie is too full of himself but you can't deny his prowess.

Excellent call on Eric Johnson and another excellent call on ZAP.... that tune BLOWS AWAY so many others.....

That particular Yngwie song is definately one of his best. I still remember the first time I heard him was on the debut album by Steeler with Ron Keel on shrapnel. The guitar solo intro to Hot Your Heels is still classic!!!!

JAMIE LARITZ - A native of my home state PA. This guy is pretty underground when it comes to being known. Amazing player with tons of melody and one heck of a band backing him up (just listen to the bass line in this song) His album Fire in the Sky is a masterpiece IMO. One of the best instrumentals out there and really hard to come by. Enjoy this underground wonder.
On a side not Jamie played guitar for Bret Michaels solo releases.

I know this isnt a Pell original but IMO he is at his comfort zone and best here. We all should know this great Blackmore/Rainbow classic. Johnny Gioeli steals the show here but man does Pell shine. ARP to me is a perfect example of what a shredder should be, just because you can run laps around the guitar doesnt mean you have to lose the simplicity because you become so technical on it.

Love his work but there starts to be a sameness there. My favorite is with Rob Rock on vocals.

ARP does seem to have a comfort zone and some songs do run together the wrong way. He also has worked with some of the best voices in music. Love his melodic approach to the guitar though..

One of the best voices, best covers, and best performances out there. I havent heard of Johny G until I picked up a few of ARP's newest releases and man is he amazing.

Mark Knopfler of the band Dire Straits is one guitarist people should study for sound, technique, and just passion for the guitar. This guy has a style that just jumps out at you and you can only appreciate.

Never really cared for Dire Straits (outside of Money For Nothing, that is) but I gotta agree, Knopfler rules! Excellent guitarist with a very unique style.

Is he a shredder though? A great style, great tone and a subdued style that works well with his songwriting.

Mark to me might not SHRED, but he plays his instrument well enough to be mentioned in the same sentence as Vai, Satch, and all others of the shred genre. I classify a shredder based on his capabilities on the guitar. Could Mark play a whole concert with him just wailing away on his guitar and peak my interest? Of course and thats why I chose him.

Exactly, "shredder" is a term thrown around way too much. Great guitarist/songwriter though...

I gotta side with Rob here. The term "shredder" doesn't have to necessarily apply only to really fast heavy metal guys, but applies more universally to great guitar players. To me, the real shredders are the guys like Knopfler.

I think the Edge is a "great guitar player" but i find it hard to label him a shredder...

RANDY RHOADS...Everyone knows who this guy is and if you have ever played the guitar you have to at leats tried to play some of Randy's stuff. To me Randy was what Beethoven would have been if he played the guitar. A Virtuoso Genius...

MARTY FRIEDMAN...Most know him for his work in Megadeth and Cacophony with Megadeth being a bigger stage. Marty never got to shine in Megadeth and listening to him now makes me wonder why he didnt get that chance? Amazing player who has a very unique style.

One of the best pieces of music ever on the guitar...

Marty is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. He totally shreds, but does it in such an unconventional manner that it's just truly unique and yet completely MEHTUL.

How wasn't he allowed to shine in Megadeth? Some of his solos where astounding with them. An awesome player.
