| That's true. I can't imagine updating their sound will gain them a slew of new fans. The only thing that'll happen is that their old fans will feel alienated... |

| Imagine Stryper releasing a black metal album, or in their case a "white" metal one |

| You should. It was the album Reborn should have been -an updated sound but with the Stryper solos, screams and harmonies. It's more hard rock than metal, but it's still a very good album, as it's unmistakeably them. A shift away from this (successful) sound could be either very good or very bad. |

That could be a context thing. Hearing the new stuff along with the old stuff kinda gives a different impression. Not saying they're not good songs...I think they are...just that new material mixed in with older material makes the newer material sound like it "fits" a little better... |

I was thinking the same thing. "We Wish You A Yellow & Black Christmas" anyone? _________________ "God's the ultimate playa, so naturally He's going to have some haters," rapper Ice Cube said. | My guess is that this will be a cover album ... ... but if it's not and it's a "new" direction I seriously doubt it will be un-lame. |

| A covers album it is: | Quote: | "FEBRUARY 15, 2010 - Hey Everyone, Just as promised, I wanted to outline some more details regarding the new Stryper record. We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking.
We grew up on the streets of LA playing every club in town from Gazzari's to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands. We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from - our historical, musical roots so to speak. It's a side to Stryper that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this. We performed "On Fire" by Van Halen on a few tours and we also performed "Breaking The Law" by Priest on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear Stryper cover these songs and even more surprised to hear Stryper perform these songs relatively well. This will be an opportunity for Robert, Oz, Tim and myself to loosen up and have some fun.
For those of you who may think that we're walking away from our faith - your wrong. We've never been more serious about our faith at any point in our lives. It is however important to enjoy what you do and lighten up from time to time. That's what we plan to do. This will be a fun record to make and we hope that this comes through, as well as the chance to showcase the abilities that we've been blessed with. More details to come and a specific song list and sequence to follow.
We're looking forward to getting back into the studio and more important, to seeing all of you on the road again this year!
Be well, be blessed and let the games begin, Michael" |
I'm actually stoked by this!_________________ |

| Lookinf forward to this as well. They played "Breakin The Law" when I saw them in Houston this past December and they did a remarkable job. The crowd did receive the song very well as Michael said and me and my buddy were thinking after the show that they ought to record some of their favorite covers. |

| So I suppose, my comment about something more aggressive applies ? I wonder if Robert will ask them to cover some Bill Menchen stuff Thanks for the post Kurt. Now this would be kewl if they did stuff from this group of bands. | Quote: | We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Why? You can hear the influence in the guitar harmonies...especially in "The Reign"... |

Sure, I can see how Maiden influenced Stryper. I just don't think tey'll do a good job on any of their songs._________________ |

| Someone over at the CMR suggested Fight the Good Fight by Triumph. That sounds like a perfect song for them. However, I'm not sure how I feel about a Christian band covering secular songs. It just doesn't sound right to me. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!
