Let's talk US Power Metal!

Rob Rock's new band Fires of Babylon is the picture above. Great American power metal with a modern edge.

Seconding Savatage. Sirens and The Dungeons Are Calling define testosterone-laden metal for me, and they're so underrated. Fates Warning's The Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian need mention too, and early Queensryche.

EDIT: And Slauter Xstroyes' Free the Beast is incredible. All the energy of early Bruce-era Maiden and vocal theatrics of King Diamond, with some of the most progressive songs written by a USPM band.

I like Rob Rock as far as the newer Power Metal stuff. Judas Priest's Painkiller always had a slight Power Metal vibe to it too.

Rob Rock's solo stuff wouldn't exactly fit into the American power metal style, with the exception of the Holy Hell album maybe, but his Fires of Babylon band is pure USPM. Painkiller has a USPM vibe to it.

Metal Church is my favorite in this genre. Also love Vicious Rumors, Omen, Savatage, and Armored Saint. FOB is really good also. Might be my favorite genre.

I was wondering what everyone's favorite US power metal recordings are. My top something would look something like this:

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian / The Spectre Within
Heir Apparent - Graceful Inheritance
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic / The Deluge / Open the Gates / Mystification
Manowar - Into Glory Ride
Savage Grace - Master of Disguise
Metal Church - Metal Church
Queensr˙che - Queensr˙che EP
Helstar - Remnants of War
Warlord - And the Cannons of Destruction have begun
Recon - Behind Enemy Lines
Thruster - Back in Time 7"
Solar Eagle - Charter to Nowhere demo
Longing's Past - An Angel's Tale
Titan Force - Titan Force

Best US power metal albums IMHO:

1. Manowar - Kings of Metal
2. Iced Earth - The Dark Saga
3. Iced Earth - Something Wicked this Way Comes
4. Savatage - The Hall of the Mountain King
5. Crimson Glory - Transcendance
6. Metal Church - The Dark
7. Manowar - Triumph of Steel
8. Metal Church - Blessing in Disguise

(I kept it to only USA bands, though there are other bands that have an 'American power metal style as well - even though they're not American)
