'Growing Pains' Actor Found Dead

Actor Andrew Koenig was found dead in a Vancouver park on Thursday. The former "Growing Pains" star had been missing since Feb. 14.
"My son took his own life," his father Walter Koenig said in a news conference.
The 41-year-old star was reported missing by his parents after he missed a flight to Los Angeles from Vancouver.
Vancouver police confirmed a body was found in Stanley Park Thursday afternoon.
Koenig starred as Richard "Boner" Stabone on "Growing Pains" from 1985 to 1989. He also appeared on "21 Jump Street," "My Two Dads" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." More recently, Koenig worked as an editor, writer and director.

I used to watch that show as a kid...

I never knew he was Chekov's son til this happened. How sad it was suicide.R.I.P.

I thought it was hilarious on another board when someone said, "The wrong kid died."

They are obviously referring to Kirk Cameron, who became a whackjob towards the end of the show's run. Cameron has since become Fred Phelps lite.

I was a fan back in the day and there was a little throwaway joke that always cracked me up on that show. Boner's last name on the show was "Stabone", giving him the nick name Boner.

Boner: So last night, my mom was talking to my dad and she said "Sylvester, we should..."
Mike: Hold on. You dad's name is Sylvester? Sylvester Stabone?
Boner: Yea. Who coulda known, Mikey?

Stupid, but gets me every time.

Remember the episode where he joins the military and is suddenly a serious character. I thought that was a cool thing to do with the goofy sidekick. Always seemed like he was a better actor than they let him be. Feel sorry for guys like that who can never shake the typecast and keep a career going. It's like they were too good at playing their part.

I thought he looked kinda like Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle).

Anyways... shame, I used to watch "Growing Pains" pretty regularly when I was growing up. Funny stuff, I would always get an immature chuckle from the character name "Boner."

...also, the Mom on "Growing Pains" was a total MILF.

I think he's just serious about his faith. There are people the exact opposite of him that i think need help too.

Unfortunately Kirk's faith created a monster. He was solely responsible for Julie McCullogh getting fired from the show. Julie had posed in Playboy, and when Kirk found out about it, I guess he decided that Julie was a lesser human being for doing something like that. It didn't matter that their storyline was pretty effective, and that she was doing her job, but for the plain and simple fact that she had taken her clothes off once,.... subsequently she had to go. Then Kirk constantly threatened to not do certain storylines within the show, because it was of the unchristian theme. It's not like Growing Pains was pushing the envelope very often, so his complaints were seen as ridiculous. The guy also had been very close to his castmates, but then he began to shun them all. The only one he didn't push away would be his future wife, who he met on the show. Lastly, when his wedding came around, NOBODY from his T.V family was invited, even though his wedding was heavily attended.

I've been gone from this site for a while (vacationing down in Florida), but I just wanted to say R.I.P. to Andrew Koenig (otherwise known as Richard "Boner" Stabone). I haven't heard anything out of Mr. Cameron, but I'll be interested to hear, if or when he condemns one of his old castmates to hell for his recent actions.
