I just got Gary Hughes- Once and Future King (Parts I & II) and also the Missa Mercuria project. I have several of the Ayreon projects as well. I'm wondering what are some of your favorites in the Metal Opera genre (all-star projects or otherwise). There are so many of them featuring the same general group of all-star vocalists that I get confused, so I'd like to sort out a few of the better ones here.

Anything by Ayreon, really. All are fantastic. Some others I really dig:
(Yes, this is an official video. Haha!)
(Guess this is more rock opera, and I've actually never seen this rather goofy-looking theatrical release, but the original CD version is excellent.)
(Would this trilogy be considered a metal opera?)
(These three albums are solid, but the narrator is horrible and annoying.)
I don't know. What makes something a metal opera?

Thanks, I'll be picking up several of those. Avantasia and more Ayreon for sure. Another one that I'm getting is a comeback by the old post-NWOBHM melodic band Saracen "Vox In Excelsius". Maybe not an Opera but a concept album at least. I have low expectations for that one because it's based on Dan Brown's writings (I'm not a fan), but I'll risk it anyway because I do like Saracen.
