I'm too lazy to look for it, but there's another thread 'round here with some opinions on this recording, among other things.

I heard some clips which were ok, but nothing that blew me away. Decent enough hard rock record. Sadly, it's probably getting more attention because of the famous folks connected with it than the music itself.

That is very true, I cannot remember who else is on their but Scott Ian (of course) but Ms. Loaf did call in some big guns for her solo recording debut.

I seem to recall that Jerry Cantrell and Ted Nugent lent a hand in there too.

Here's the other thread with some other discussions...

Wouldn't really call this a hard rock record. Modern rock, sure, but no way is it hard rock in the traditional sense.

Yeah, I listened to the samples on Amazon and while there are definitely some hard rock songs on it, there were just as many "mellow" songs IMO.

Not bad at all but not something I feel the need to own.

When i read "pearl" in the subject heading, this was my first inclination as to whom it was in refrence to, Janis Joplin. She is "pearl" in my book and one of the most natural gifted singers there ever was.

oh yeah, thanks for the link

I wish more female singers these days wanted to be Janis Joplin instead of, I dunno, Madonna.

I thought the same thing, also the cover photo reminds me of a famous photo of Janis Joplin, so maybe in her own way , Pearl Aday is paying tribute to an artist that may have influenced her.

why ? I guess singing doesn't matter ? madonna is a great performer but can't sing no where near the level that Janis could. If madonna looked like rosie o' donnel would you still have the same opinion ?

Wanna hear someone of Janis Joplin's calibre? Check out Beth Hart.

Janis is awesome!!!!!!! definitely died way to young and way too soon. IMO Madonna should have stopped after the 80s thats just me though like its been said shes a great performer but not in the same caliber of singing as Janis. Just My opinion

Im listening to Pearl and I am definitly liking this she can sing, wouldnt surprise me if Janis was an influence on her. I only heard 2 songs and I loved what I heard.

Its funny you mentioned Beth Hart Toho I was thinking of a song I liked that I thought she did but it was Beth Orton lol

Criss and I are major Beth Hart fans. He turned me on to Dana Fuchs too. Same "Janis-y" vocals.

Singing doesn't matter?

I love Madonna's singing. I'm sorry you don't. But that doesn't mean that just because it's 'your opinion' that Janis is a better singer than Madonna makes it a fact.

It's my opinion that Madonna is the better singer of these two.

But I won't push that as FACT on anyone else.

Personally, I never liked Janis Joplin. Her voice gets on my nerves.

I've heard better than Madonna (though I like Madonna and am a fan of hers), but Madonna is WAY better than Janis (to me).

Again ... I don't like Janis. I'd rather listen to the wind blow.

I'm with you on Hendrix. Appreciate his talent, but yeah - not a fan.

Now I do like me some Led Zeppelin now. LOL.

My OPINION is that you've been listening to too much crap pop music MB.

I'm with the others; Madonna is a great performer but her voice is crap IMO (note: IMO!!!!).

Janis sings with so much more "feel" and things in the music business were much less orchestrated back then. One of the things I admire about Madonna is her ability to reinvent herself from one era to the next but it's all so calculated IMO. She's trying to capitalize on what's commercially viable at a given point in time whereas Janis just sang from the soul.

You may not like Janis' voice and that's your opinion but there's no denying she sang from the heart. Unfortunately I think Madonna sings from "the market". That chameleon-like ability is a talent in itself but there's no comparing the sheer vocals between the two IMO.
