Madonna is one of the few pop divas who DOES sing from the heart!

She writes her own material too.

She still sounds like a corporate "targeted" singer IMO. She's aiming at a specific demographic with each release.

"Oh that danceable crap I did before won't sell now? How about this?"

True, you'll never shift me off my opinion of Madonna's "vocals" and I'll never shift you off how much you don't like Joplin's vocals.

At least I give credit where I think it's due; I do admire Madonna's ability to re-invent herself constantly to appeal to a new demographic.

I just can't stand her actual voice.

I love Madonna's 80s stuff

Madonna is a chameleon like my main man David Bowie

She definitely is a chameleon; I think I said that a few posts back. I also said that ability requires a certain talent. I just don't think it makes me like her voice any more.

Yes, Madonna is like David Bowie in many ways.

I'm a fan of both.

I guess her voice is either 'love it or hate it'. I always loved her voice.

It's very passionate and sexy to me.

I am a fan of both Madonna and Janis Joplin, and since I am at I think Beth Hart kicks ass too.

I think comparing Joplin to Madonna is apples to oranges, two very different women from very two different eras. That being said keep in mind Janis Joplin was the first woman in the modern rock era who took control of her career, wrote the songs and in some cases choose what songs to cover, hired her band, hand picked her music producer. Janis Joplin may not have had the business smarts Madonna has, but Janis sang with heart, soul, and passion, and that my friends is why we still remember her and why we still miss her 40 years later.

I'm not denying Janis' influence or talent.

Just not a fan.

Hey MB

Still wondering how you took my opinion as stating a fact.

My wife can sing like Janis and if she practiced hard enough she could jump and dance onstage while lip syncing just like Madonna.

It just came across that way is all. It's not a big deal.

I think it may have just been a misunderstanding is all.

Fair enough.

Ironically, it's the exact mirror opposite for me.

I do admire Janis' historical place and her talent, which was evident.

I just am not a fan of her vocals ... whereas Madonna's vocals have put me to sleep ... many a night.
