| A few weeks ago I got ahold of the album Voice of Wilderness by Korpiklaani after having becoming obssessed with the track 'Beer, Beer'. The album is great and has really spurred me over the last month to check out a lot of incredibly different folk metal bands from Finntroll to Skyclad. However, I noticed these kinds of bands don't get mentioned here very often (if at all) so I was curious if there were actually many fans at all? Finntroll and Korpiklaani (the latter especially so) seem like great 'jig' music with a somewhat death metal edge, whereas Skyclad really is exactly what happens when you mix heavy metal (and the Sabbat singer) with folk music.
So, yeah, any fans? And if so, any suggestions as to where I should look next? I've been listening to mainly Skyclad, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Elvenking, Eluveitie, Turisas and Moonsorrow - all seem excellent bands, I'm just curious if there's anything major I'm missing? |

| I love this kind of music!! Elvenking is among my all-time favorites. Let me add these: Ensiferum - They are 'viking' or 'folk' metal....very speedy and with rough or sort of 'blackened' vocals... Wuthering Heights - LOVE this band...at least the last two. They are very fast and technical Folk Powermetal with incredible vocals. I highly recommend Far From The Madding Crowd and The Shadow Cabinet. (The vocalist is the guy from Astral Doors!) That's my two cents...I'll let others chime in... |

| I love folk metal, and agree with scottmitchell74 that Wuthering Heights is the very best in the genre! I would also check out: FALCONER, folkish power metal MAGO DE OZ, also great mix of metal and folk LUMSK, Norwegian folk metal, good band singing in norwegian (might turn someone off??) |

| The band Skyclad evolved from perhaps; Sabbat. Pagan-metal at it's best. |

| Thanks for the suggestions guys. And yeah, as far as I'm aware, Skyclad did evolve from Sabbat, but Sabbat seem more thrash than anything. Also, GrandNational, I've looked into Eluveitie as I said in the first post - they seem like a great band!
Anyway, I've got me some song searching to do now. Cheers guys. |

| I saw a show recently at a local festival with a band called Needfire from Dallas. Celtic heavy metal, I liked it enough to buy both of their CD's. Drums, Guitar, Bass, Fiddle & Bagpipes = good metal. |
