| I was really only wanting suggestions on the Norweigan foundation...the "second wave" I guess it's called. But I appreciate everyone's input... |

| Well, that's enough of that... I downloaded: Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse Gorgoroth - Under The Sign Of Hell Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky Burzum - Filosofem Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas That is some dark, wicked, abrasive stuff...after I got about 2/3 thru each album I was cured of my interest. I was surprised at how individual each band sounded from the other...they were not clones of each other at all...which is quite admirable. I still admire their independence and their "screw all ya'll" (or the Scandinavian equivalent) attitude and doing what they want despite the rest of the world (and each other)...but I had enough. It didn't take much to realize that, while I respect them, I can't get into it and I'll never be a fan. Now where are my Mr. Big CD's? |

| From what I understand, Darkthrone doesn't make a living off the band. They both work regular jobs...one in the post office, I think. I'm sure Peaceville makes money off them though... |

| Primordial is a band that seems to be the second coming of jesus on a lot of metal forums when they talk about black metal. I have heard a few tracks and they have some really interesting musical passages. Its hard to explain and something one must hear. |

Honestly, I don't like any of those bands. Norwegian second wave black metal has always bored me to tears. South Americans and Canucks did it much better imo. |

| yeah man, Hellhammer is like necro x532646746. But I don't think they had the songwriting yet (not until 'Morbid Tales'..are you morbid?) - Bathory did though, again. As much as I hate a lot of Bathory stuff lyrically, like really hate. To me Bathory is more of the 'big bang'. |

| I'm really enjoying the new Darkthrone stuff, try out there new one "Circle the Wagons" or the one before "Dark Thrones and Black Flags".
Also check the Drudkh stuff, excellent ambient black metal.
And Marduk's new record Wormwood slays.
As well as Marantha by Funeral Mist, it came out last year and it is amazing. There first one is really good too. |

I love both of 'em to death. The first Bathory LP is essential for every self respecting black metal fan. I don't like The Return as much though. |

| The first Lengsel album, like Beherit, is a great example of a lot of raw BM stylings mixed with some other elements, in this case some more moody and progressive ones....amazing album. One band that does continually great raw BM, but makes it sound fresh all on it's own, is Arckanum, who I guess could be thrown in with 'second wave' since they started out around 1992, but only hit their stride years later, then had almost a decade long absence and came out with some of their best albums.
For the non-raw discussion, anyone else like Summoning? |

| OK, my initial shock is subsiding... Like most things that shock me at first (like Metallica & Slayer did when I first heard them), I decided to give it another go. It's starting to settle in now...and I can say I think it's good in the sense of intensity and passion...IMO, this music is real and honest, however twisted and contrary some of the lyrical themes may be. So far, I think I like the Burzum album the best...I like the ambient passages in it. I'll be giving these some more spins as the weeks progress...I think my mistake was trying to digest all of them at once...LOL! |

I find Mr. Big more terrifying than any Black Metal band. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| Not a huge black metal fan, but I'll suggest Twilight Ophera.

| Listened to At The Heart Of Winter last night...very cool stuff. The guys vocals are pretty unique, IMO. Was playing Filosofem on the way into work this morning...normally I don't like it when a band repeats the same 2 or 3 riffs for 7 minutes at a time, but there's something kind of hypnotic about how Burzum does it... |

| Be sure to check out the other Immortal, 'Pure Holocaust', which is widely viewed as classic and from that classic era, and then if you want to hear how something like that is interpreted from 'ATHOW' onward, check out 'Sons of Northern Darkness'. Gris - Il Était une Forêt...is recommended since you are liking the Burzum..it's pretty recent, but great. |

| Yeah Pure Holocaust rules! But ALL Immortal albums are great.
If you are liking the Burzum, have you heard his new album "Belus"? Amazing album I think! |

| if you want to hear depressing black metal with doom influence... listen to Burzum's "En Ring Til å Herske". it's from the Det Som Engang Var album. pure beauty!
