| I'm taking a "wait and see" attitude with this one. The first two "Predator" films were cool stuff; the original is my fave Arnold movie and one of my all time fave movies, period. (Mainly because for juuuust a little while there, it really looks like Arnold might actually lose for once!) I can take or leave the "Alien Vs. Predator" flicks, but supposedly the makers of this new flick are planning to pick up where the first two "Predators" left off and ignore the events of the "AvP's" anyway which sounds fine to me.
The trailers for "Predators" don't really have me salivating to run out and see it in a theater, but I will definitely check it out on DVD later on. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| I'm getting a sense of anticipation for it, although that might because this has been a lousy summer for movies and maybe I'm feeling a little starved for a movie to go see. |

Ditto. Of course, I'll wait until the "Director's Cut" comes out because I have a feeling RR will pour on the gore. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| RR isn't directing "Predators" though... it's some guy named Nimrod (haha!) Antal, whoever that is... the name rings a bell but I can't recall from where. Rodriguez is the producer. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

He directed Control and Vacancy. He's a pretty solid director from what I've seen. |

They could've been MUCH better than they were. The first AvP comic book series would've made a fantastic flick. For what they were, the movies were just OK monster mashes... _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| I thought the first AvP was solid as well. Some great ideas, proving they exist in the face of people laughing about the concept and expecting full-on gore, minimal use of CGI, and that awesome heroine chick that they got rid of for no reason. Very good film which could have been incredible. The second one, ummmmmm............... just had some good ideas, none of which included any of the human actors, except the blond girl finally getting shut up. The joke is I have a Predalien figure which I'm quite proud of. |

| The movie critic for our paper gave "Predators" three stars (!) for whatever that's worth... I was suprised to see it rated so highly. Actually, I'm surprised it was even screened for critics. They didn't bother to do that with either of the AvP's, which told you something about the films right there. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

They screened it for critics? Must not be a total crap fest then. They usually don;t screen they ones that really, really suck for critics. |

| you could probably stitch together one halfway decent film from the two AVP titles. Maybe.
the first was hamstrung by the PG-13 rating and continued cluelessness from Hollywood casting agents...plus a pedestrian director with only 1 good film (Event Horizon) to his credit.
the second got the gore it needed, but the cluelessness got even worse and you get the feeling there was never a completed script at any point.

| up.
Went to an early matinee today and had fun. It's not perfect (primarily some pacing issues, a few CG shots that don't work), but is MILES better than Predator 2 or the AVP flicks. It's essentially a variation of the first film, with some added twists thrown in. A good cast really helps this kind of movie, bravo to the filmmakers for their casting choices here, they went with actual actors instead of "people who look good".
The Predators (and some other critters) are back to being their old imposing selves after the 2-film hiatus where they were basically the good guys. It's nice to see them ripping peoples spines out again...almost brought a tear to my eye.
There are some neat twists I won't spoil. Worth a trip to the theater for a matinee.

| It is Predators, so I must see it. I loved the first one. I liked the second. The AVP duology could have been ten times better. Hopefully this will be an improvement. (Detuned certainly gives me hope here.) |

| Well, one problem with AVPR was that it had about 1/3 the budget of the first film...which I think hamstrung way too much. That's why the entire movie was shot so dark you can barely see anything...would give away too much of the low budget set design.
I think the directors did what they could with an AWFUL script and some of the worst actors ever collected together in one place. I'M NOT KIDDING!

| I couldn't stand the Sheriff in AVPR, nor the lead actor's younger brother. In fact, if every one had died in that movie, I would not have cared.
I did have some cool moments with the Predator fighting Aliens though. The movie would have been better if that was all it had been. Unfortunately, that would have made it into a 15 minute movie. |
