That doesn't surprise me. But a real, legitimate, authorized compat disc was released? Or a we talking high-end bootlegs?

Does this Australian version of High Voltage exist on cd or was this a vinyl only release? I'd like to get this.

It was out on CD for a short awhile but according to Rattpoison it is now out of print and replaced with the international version.

I've seen them. They are actual discs...but....the sound quality was TERRIBLE. I'd search out a vinyl copy instead.

1975’s T.N.T. was the album that followed up High Voltage, also released by Albert
Productions. It was this particular release that established the balls to the wall sound that the world would eventually embrace as AC/DC.

The album itself was recorded primarily over a two week period in July of 1975, The Jack itself had been recorded earlier in April and the song ‘High Voltage,’ released as a single earlier in the year to made its appearance here as well. Of particular note was that when The Jack was recorded it was determined that a toned down lyrical version of the song should be
recorded, as to avoid censors and label execs. This was one of the ultimate Bon Scott twists on words.

The boys in the studio had a great laugh as they knew what the meaning was behind the words. The uncensored version was still performed live however.

This was the album that brought in Mark Evans on bass. George Young handled the bass duties on High Voltage and for a time Malcolm played bass, but adding Evans allowed Mal to go back to guitar.

Several all time AC/DC classics appear here, such as ‘Live Wire,’ ‘TNT,’ ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top,’ ‘The Jack.’ One of their earliest show piece tunes, ‘It’s a Long Way’ was actually pieced together out of an extended studio jam session. George Young and Harry Vanda saw the brilliance in the patching it all together and a song was born. It was also George’s idea to
have Bon play the bagpipes on the song.

‘Can I Sit Next to You Girl’ was re-recorded for this album. Chuck Berry’s ‘School Days,’ ‘Rock n Roll Singer,’ and long time concert favorite ‘Rocker’ rounded out the album.

Its classic AC/DC but when it was released in December of 1975 no one outside of Australia had a clue. None. T.N.T. tore up the Australian charts and sold over 50,000 copies going triple platinum in the process. A full tour for T.N.T. went through November into January 1976.

In late 1975 manager Michael Browning ultimately secured a deal with Atlantic. This release will be discussed next, AC/DC were given a $25,000 advance for the album with an option
for two more, with four more options. That disc will be discussed shortly.

This has actually been one of the easier ‘Australia Only’ releases to obtain. The vinyl would often show up in many import shops here in the states. Personally I had an opportunity to purchase either this album or the Australian version of ‘Let There Be Rock,’ if I had realized how hard it would be to obtain LTBR I would’ve picked that up, but obtained TNT instead.

CD’s are also a bit easier to come by as I’ve had on multiple occasions the opportunity, but not the cash ($35 and up) to secure a copy.

The track listing is as follows

1. It's a A Long Way to the Top
2. Rock n Roll Singer
3. The Jack
4. Live Wire
5. TNT
6. Rocker
7. Can I Sit Next To You Girl
8. High Voltage
9. School Days

It should also be noted that remastered CD versions of this disc have shorter versions of Rocker and High Voltage. The vinyl releases have the longer versions of these recording. The album was only released in Australia and New Zealand.

Got this album not too long ago. Think I paid $15 for it. A lot of great songs on this one.

Great album, and I love 'Its a Long Way to the Top' where Bon Scott smashes all the rock myths in what it really takes to make it as rock band while at the same time announcing AC/DC as a new contender.

Great album and I bought this on vinyl so I could hear at the time the unreleased 'School Days' and loved it so much, at the age of 15 it made go back and try to find the original recording from Chuck Berry, which I will forever be grateful.

I will comment more on the songs when we get to the international release of 'High Voltage'

Oh yeah, killer record.

Was 'The Jack' a euphamism for crabs or some other STD? That's the rumor I heard.

I don't have this version of the album, although I'm familiar with all the tracks. AC/DC even managed to make bagpipes sound cool. And I hate bagpipes.

I've always assumed The Jack is a variation on "The Clap". I've always wondered if the song title was changed after the lyrics were changed to a card game...the title makes more sense in that context.

On the live version of 'The Jack' from 'If You want Blood' Bon screams gonorrhea before the guitar solo.

Yes TNT was released with a gate fold sleeve.

The Jack was written about how all the guys in the band got VD. One group of women and they all got it....

I had High Voltage back in the day, although I think the one I had was the dime-a-dozen version, which was pretty much similar to this one.

TNT is an amazing album, nothing short of that. I remember reading somewhere that Angus said Malcolm played a few solos in the early days. Which ones?

Show Business and/or Stick Around are the ones I believe.... He would play more lead guitar before the 'band roles' became more defined. It has been said that Malcolm was a better player than Angus.

I think you are correct, I read an AC/DC biography that mentioned which song he took a solo on but I can't remember, I also believe that George Young played bass on the Aussie version of ' High Voltage' and Bon Scott does most of the drumming on that album but I do not own the book so I am not sure if that info is correct

George did play the bass on the Australian High Voltage. As far as the drumming I'm not sure...

I know Freddy owns the book, and I have one biography of Bon Scott, and two AC/DC biographies I will look it up when I get home.

I do have the book "Maximum Rock N Roll" and I do believe it mentions George Young "ghosting" on some early sessions, but to be honest I'm too lazy to go upstairs and dig thru the heap of crap on my desk to find the book and look it up. But yeah, that sounds right to me.

I know, I'm so helpful. Laughing
