Ok picture this if you will. I was in bed earlier tonight and my mind was racing. I am going to get back into carving again.

Anyway while laying in bed I came up with this idea about making a table that is heavy metal related. Meaning that it will be built strictly with metal music in mind.

Ok here is what I came up with mind you this a rough draft and this will take some time to do.
I'm thinking of making the top 2' x 4' and the height of around 3'.

The top will be made of pine 1x8's glued together so it roughly comes to about 2' 6" x 4' 6" that way I can cut the right dimensions. Ok here is what I am gonna do with the top. I'm gonna carve in bands names that are close to what you see all the time on their cds. In the 2x4 size they will be drawn on there and then they will be carved around the names. So when all the names are all carved around you will see about 1/8 to 3/16" of the wood carved out so it will look like it is coming out at you. Once finished with the carving I will sand the tops of the names and will paint them according to their colors. Not sure how many band names will go on there.

What wood was carved out will be burnt slightly with a torch to bring it out a bit.

Ok around the outside border it will be picture framed and on the frame itself I'm thinking of carving in metal genres....Power metal, progressive metal, thrash metal, NWOBHM, heavy metal, melodic power.....well what I can fit on there.
It will either be carved on the side or top of the frame not sure. What idea do you think would look best?

With the picture frame attached to the top it will be slightly higher as to put on a glass top to be flush with the frame top. This will protect the band name carvings below.

Now for the legs I'm thinking of using pine as well 1x8 but glued 2 together. The legs will be about 3' in height. I'm thinking of carving them as guitars, 4 different styles.

I'm gonna attach the necks to the bottom part of the table, glued & screwed. I'm gonna try and be as close as I can with the detail of each guitar.

I'm hoping to start this next week and have it done in a month. I'll give you a progress report and pics.

Sounds like a pretty ambitious project on your part. Good luck with it.

I bet you could get a limited market for those. There are a few fanatics that would pay for it.

If I had the money for one and a place to put it, I'd buy one.

I would do each leg for the table as one of these mascots: Iced Earth, Maiden, Grave Digger and Megadeth.

Yea that mascot thing for legs would be awesome. Thats going to be some project Wargod.
