PostSubject: Van Halen recording a new album   Fri Aug 06, 2010 2:31 pm

I will believe it when I see it, but it is official:

It appears that the rumours of a new Van Halen album are right on the money.

An official statement from the band’s publishers, Warner/Chappell Music, not only confirms that their agreement with Eddie and Alex Van Halen has been extended, but tellingly ends with the following line:

‘The group is currently in the studio recording an album with [David Lee] Roth that is due for release in 2011.’

This would be the band’s first studio album with Diamond Dave since 1984.

This is from Classic Rock Magazine

How will it sound without the signature vocals of Michael Anthony backing them up?

well, unfortunately they can multi track and layer the backing vocals so much that it will probably sound good, but playing it live will be a different story.
Unless of course, they make some modern sounding rock album with downplayed guitars and vocals without any bg vocals or very little bg vocals.

It couldn't possibly be worse than the Van Cherone album ... could it?

I doubt Van Halen will turn into Slip Halen, it should be interesting and the kid Wolfie did a good job on the backround vocals, but part of that signature sound of those early Van Halen recordings were Anthony's vocals so it will be different. I suspect it will sound more like 'Eat 'em and Smile'

That I doubt!!!!! Hopefully it will be a kick-a$$ return to glory album, but then again it is 26 years after the release of 1984

What's the date of that report? Last I heard in July, Rolling Stone reported they were saying the rumors of a 2011 release were false.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/17386/152865

They also say it's the classic lineup. Phht, stupid.

I do too, and I think it may due to the fact so many veteran acts are releasing new albums but I will believe it when I see it

Van Halen III wasn't that bad. I don't think most people really gave it a chance. Cherone wasn't the problem with that record, it was the songwriting. Also people were use to hearing simple, sex based lyrics from the band and hearing deeper lyrics in VH wasn't what most people wanted or expected.

Wasn't that bad is faint praise for VH. I just found it uninspired all around.

My main problem with VHIII was that it sounded like just another Van Hagar record. Gary even sounded quite a bit like Sammy.

There had been pre-release hype that it was going to be more "back to basics" and have more of the "classic" VH sound, but I sure didn't hear me none of that.

Which begs the question, why did fire Hagar and hire Cherone just to have him ape Hagar's style?

For the same reason Judas Priest hired Tim "Ripper" Owens - "OK kid, here's your script, now just sing it like the last guy would've and we'll all make a zillion dollars."

Given the current discussions and the strong reactions that the news has brought about, I hardly see how the picture represents the current situation. Now, if this picture is suppose to represent the people that share your opinion on this subject, than perhaps it holds some truth.

Anywho, I've been hearing rumors for quite some time now. Both Dweezil Zappa and John 5 have said they have heard new Van Halen tracks. My thoughts are that something is definitely going on in 5150 I think that a feeling of inducement has come over the band whether it is from the tour success or the plea from fans to do something with Roth.

If "Me Wise Magic" that they put out a couple of years ago is any indication, I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
Saw them live 3 times and was a huge junkie growing up. Hell, VH and Metallica are probably the reason I'm on this board right now
Cheers,
Chris

I'm sorry, I understand now it's personal.

But picture will remain until an album comes out and the air is clear of ego/drug/drink freak outs.
