| Albums that you think are better than most people say they are...
For example, people tend to hate the mid-80's Jon Brant Cheap Trick albums, but I think "Standing on the Edge" is a very good Cheap Trick album.
Also, people tend to hate Megadeth's "Cryptic Writings", but I like it despite it being a more melodic metal offering. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Accept - Eat The Heat
Yeah, David Reece's voice is too melodic for the Accept sound but if this album had been released using a different band name I don't think it would evoke nearly the amount of vitriol it typically gets. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| Agreed. I think Eat the Heat isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Hellhammer is a killer tune. |

X-T-C kicks butt from that album.
I agree, if "Eat the Heat" had been released under another band name, it might have done better, but Accept without Udo at that time was blasphemy to most fans. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

Honestly, I haven't heard many people say bad things about this album. It's actually one of my favourite Megadeth records. Also, I agree with Ult on Cryptic Writings - it's not quite Megadeth per se, but it's a solid rock album. I also really liked the MD.45 album, The Craving, which I've heard rather mixed views on. However, the remaster with Dave on vocals ruins it completely. The main draw of the album was Lee Ving's soulful vocals.
I actually quite like Twisted Sister's Love Is For Suckers. Whilst it's a far cry from their classic heavy metal offerings, it's a fun, quite glammy album. I love 'Wake Up The Sleeping Giant', 'Hot Love', 'I Want This Night To Last Forever' and the title track.
A lot of people rip on Extreme's Waiting For The Punchline as a radical departure from their previous style and jumping on the grunge bandwagon, but I think that's ludicrous. To me, it sounds like a natural progression of their sound, following the melancholy of III Sides ending with bitter frustration. A great album, I certainly like it a lot more than their cliched debut.
Steve Vai's Sex & Religion is generally disliked by most Vai fans and whilst it's not amazing, I've always enjoyed it. The music is fun 90s rock and Devin Townsend's voice sounds incredible. When I got to meet him at Bloodstock this year, I got Devin to sign my 'In My Dreams With You' single - he was surprised to see that, haha.
System of a Down - Steal This Album. I doubt there's many System fans on this board, but this album regularly gets discarded as merely the offcuts of Toxicity which is unfair and wrong. Whilst not as good as what came before and after, it's enjoyable and worthy of much more praise than it gets.
Sonata Arctica's Unia regularly gets ripped on but I've always quite liked it. It's a bit... sappy, and not really that rocking but there's something about it. It has this certain warmth to it that I really like.
Alice Cooper's Flush The Fashion isn't bad, but I can see why it didn't take off. I still dig it though, but then I have a soft spot for New Wave. Even if it's Alice doing it.
That's all I can think of! Apologies for the rambling post. |
