Ok not his musicianship he will always be a highly talented guitarist. I heard recently hes been performing with UK Idol and X Factor contestants doing Queen songs with Roger Taylor and been performing Queen songs with Robbie Williams whom John Deacon quite rightly criticised them doing so and saying its not at all the same without Freddie Mercury. I am sure Freddie mercure now is rolling around in his grave. Brian May has completely degraded himself and the Queen label

They're free to play with whom they wish. He's not performing "as" the band Queen...he's playing songs he helped write with other people...no harm.

I completely agree, he's a great musician but some of the choices he's made concerning ongoing Queen projects make no sense to me at all. scratch

Except on the crappy XFactor they introduced them as Queen, idiots. I have no clue why they'd want to appear on that show anyway. It was found out the producers used autotune in the auditions this year. The show and everyone involved just fails.

So he has to sit around and never play his songs anymore because Freddy's dead?

Good point, the Doors still perform with guest vocalists, but in that regard nobody can replace Morrison either.

As long as theyre not going out as "Queen" I got no prob

I can never lose respect for Brian May. He could record the entire Queen catalog as techno remixes and sell them off to be used in fast food commercials and I would still think of him as a demigod.

Didn't Queen members play on American Idol a few years ago? Who cares! The show sucks, but those guys have to work too. I wish I could do Ultimatum full time and make money at it, but I can't, so I work a full time job. Why shouldn't Brian May be allowed to do things to make money as well? His music with Queen will always be his legacy.

We build these images in our head of what we think our favorite artists are supposed to do and not do, then when they step outside of those guidelines we "lose respect" for them...I maintain that if you put constraints on what you think an artists is "supposed to do" then you had no respect for them to begin with.

I agree, I did not like when Jimmy Page redid 'Kasmier' (or used the riff anyway) with Puff Daddy, but I did not lose respect for Jimmy Page or am losing respect for Brian May, you record music because you want it heard and while I think American Idol sucks, when Queen appeared on the show they had surge in sales in their back catalog.

Ugh! Hated the Puff Daddy use of the Kashmir riff, but still respect Zeppelin (and to be on topic, Queen)'s contribution to music. Like Ult said, Queen's music will always be his legacy, not a few appearances on a talent show.

Well, just because an artist makes a questionable decision, doesn't mean that all their previous work turns to crap. Of course we'd prefer it if our favourite artists didn't try and make some quick money from appearing on a show like that. Actually, I think they did it to promote their latest compilation, I think it worked.

Besides, Brian May has every right to do whatever he wants with songs he wrote or helped write...
