| The difficulty in defining "emo" as a genre may have started at the very beginning. In a 2003 interview by Mark Prindle,Guy Picciotto of Fugazi and Rites of Spring was asked how he felt about "being the creator of the emo genre". He responded: "I don't recognize that attribution. I've never recognized 'emo' as a genre of music. I always thought it was the most retarded term ever. I know there is this generic commonplace that every band that gets labeled with that term hates it. They feel scandalized by it. But honestly, I just thought that all the bands I played in were punk rock bands. The reason I think it's so stupid is that - what, like the Bad Brains weren't emotional? What - they were robots or something? It just doesn't make any sense to me."
Amen to that. PPL term it Emo just because of the style of music which mostly consists of punk/pop rock and the clean whiny vocals that seem depressing |

| Well, genres are stupid things. We all know that! Haha. My whole point is that today's emo is nothing like it was originally. Today's emo is pop rock. |

So Fugazi is emotional lyrics with whiny vocals and pop-punk music? Emo of today is Fallout Boy (i.e. terrible music). Haha. I don't know where the term originated from, but I view the term in the Old World context. Haha. |

| i would describe them as a band that try to appeal to a large audience - metal, hardcore and emo - cant really blame them for trying to put money on table and i have seen them live twice but i dont care for them eveb though they are quite talented obviously |

| A guy who has some decent taste was telling me today the BFMV was a thrash metal band. I was pretty sceptical, but he's going to let me listen to them so I can make up my own mind. Does that sound right to anyone? Oh and I LOVE Fugazi...... They were an evolvement of punk, not punk in the sense of Dead Kennedy's or Sex Pistols or GBH (which is an ironic name now), but I have always considered them a punk band. |

I've always heard of them considered as a Post-Punk band.... However Fugazi are great!
By the way, BFMV aren't really for me too! Ah! And remember, a person isn't Emo until he kill himself! |

Yes, I did.
That was always my impression as well, but I've never heard them. I was a bit puzzled at the thrash tag. |

| I dont like Bullet at all.
And from what I remember, when I first heard the term "emo" it was way before all the current shite like fallout boy, what it was attached to was more like hardcore mixed with some indie stuff. But Im sure it goes back even further than that.

| And IMO, Ian MacKaye should be ashamed to have this current crap associated with anything having to do with him. |

| Ehhhh.... That's about what I was expecting. Some good riffing, but boring song structure and vocals alternating between screaming and whining. It doesn't float my boat, and it's definitely not thrash. |
