Another great " DON'T " song -
it sounds like it could of been written about Nancy ( Nancy and Sid )
She sounded like a real handful to be around with -
Or about the gal that came between Joey and Johnny - from Dee Dee's point of view
You HAVE TO play this song loud - to appreciate it !

Bummer news to wake up to this AM... Tommy Erdelyi, aka Tommy Ramone, passed away yesterday at the age of 62. He was the last surviving original member. R.I.P.

...and when "CBS This Morning" reported on Tommy's passing today, they showed a clip from the "I Wanna Be Sedated" video...which was made in 1988, so it had Marky, not Tommy, in it. (Facepalm) D'oh!!

Not by Ramones standards. Out of the original four, he died the oldest by a long way

I was a huge fan back when I was 16 , but then I grew to become more and more "metal" so I grew tired of the whole "punk" stuff. Only pure "punk rock" banda I really dig today is Sex Pistols ...

I am watching a documentary "Iron Maiden and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (2008)" and a British music journalist who grew up watching both 1970s punk and metal says something like
'much to the horror of my fellow scribes at NME and Sounds, I think "Never Mind The Bollocks" is one of the greatest heavy metal albums ever made. Steve Jones is a riffmaster.'

You really do learn something new every day, even when it comes to bands you thought you knew EVERYTHING about.

I follow C.J. Ramone on Facebook and earlier today he posted this YouTube with the comment "Not a high point!"

I had never heard or seen anything about this, so naturally my reaction was "What the hell is this? Where did this come from? Quick, Robin, to Google!"

Soon I learned that in 1995 the Ramones cut three jingles for noted cheap brew Steel Reserve High Gravity Lager. (Wikipedia sez Reverend Horton Heat performed several jingles for the beer as well.) The above track is set to the tune of their 1981 song "All's Quiet on the Eastern Front."

Here's another one. Looks like only two out of the three are YouTubed, so the third one will have to remain a mystery for now.

...I love the Ramones, AND I love cheap beer, so how the HELL was I completely unaware that these tracks existed till today??

Mind...blown!!!

Marky is the latest member of the Ramones to write a book. "Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life as a Ramone" will be released on January 13th. He'll be doing a book signing in my neck o' the woods at the end of the month, dunno if I can make that but it would be pretty cool. I will definitely check out the book at some point.

Hype from Marky's site:
markyramone.com wrote:
The final word on the genius and mischief of the Ramones, told by the man who kept the beat and lived to tell about it.

When punk rock reared its spiky head in the early seventies, Marc Bell had the best seat in the house. Already a young veteran of the prototype American metal band Dust, Bell took residence in artistic, seedy Lower Manhattan, where he played drums in bands that would shape rock music for decades to come, including Wayne County, who pioneered transsexual rock, and Richard Hell and the Voidoids, who directly inspired the entire early British punk scene.

If punk has royalty, Marc became part of it in 1978 when he was knighted “Marky Ramone” by Johnny, Joey, and Dee Dee of the iconoclastic Ramones. The band of tough misfits were a natural fit for Marky, who dressed punk before there was punk, and who brought his “blitzkrieg” style of drumming as well as the studio and stage experience the group needed to solidify its lineup. Together, they would change the world.

From the cult film Rock ’n’ Roll High School to “I Wanna Be Sedated” to Marky’s own struggles, Punk Rock Blitzkrieg is an authentic, unflinching, and always honest look at the people who reinvented rock music, and not a moment too soon.

So my brother went to Marky Ramone's book signing here in Jersey last night. He said he only got to talk to Marky for a minute before they moved him along but he was very cool. He did have an interesting story, however....

In addition to getting the book signed, fans were allowed to have one piece of memorabilia autographed too, so my brother brought an old bootleg Ramones concert poster that he's had hanging on the wall for years 'n' years - we know it's a "bootleg" because the concert date advertised on it is supposedly 1980, yet the band photo has C.J. Ramone in it.

So anyway, when my bro got up to the front of the line he showed the poster to Marky and sez "I'm sure you'll be able to tell me what's wrong with this poster." Marky took one look at it, pointed to C.J., and went "THIS f*ckin' guy!" He signed the poster, then he drew a circle/slash over C.J.'s face, a halo over Joey's head and a Hitler mustache on Johnny. My brother was DYING laughing the entire time. I can't wait to see this poster for myself!!

Sounds about right Laughing very hard

I just read that one of Johnny's used guitars sold at auction for $71,000. Hopefully to a fan and not some douchy collector.

There has been conflict there for a long time as Marky didn't want his niece marrying C.J.
Then when The Ramones ended, C.J. was pissed off he wasn't as well off financially as the rest of the band, and was struggling to make ends meet.

C.J. was married to Marky Ramone's niece, Chessa, with whom he has two children, Liam and Liliana

That 'splains a lot. You really do learn something new every day. I never knew that C.J. and Marky were semi-"related."

My bro sez Marky also told him that C.J.'s nickname within the band was "Johnny-Come-Lately" Laughing very hard

Caught this on The O'Reilly Factor tonight when he interviewed her (yeah, I know...but I'm between sports seasons so I was watching).

I even have this album and totally don't remember this song.  I will now though.

Apparently at the time she was a stock analyst for another network and Joey was pretty savvy at investing and valued her opinion.

Sounds like pretty typical Ramones to me.

^^ Yeah, legend has it that Joey was infatuated with Maria Bartiromo for quite a while, haha.

Just found this in an old article from The Guardian:

Quote :
When Maria Bartiromo started getting emails from someone calling himself Joey Ramone in 1998, she did what most people would do - she ignored them, assuming she had attracted the unwanted attention of a weirdo.

Ramone, the legendary figure of New York punk, had after all recorded the likes of Cretin Hop, Teenage Lobotomy and Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue and here he apparently was asking for investment advice. After a while though, curiosity got the better of her and Bartiromo, arguably the most recognisable business journalist in the United States, replied. "I started getting emails from him and he would say Maria, what do you think about Intel or what do you think about AOL and I thought who is this person emailing me? It's crazy, he's calling himself Joey Ramone," she recalls. "Sure enough it was him and we developed this friendship. And he was attuned to the markets. He really understood his own investment portfolio. Joey Ramone was a fantastic investor."

She later found out just how much Ramone really was in her spell.

"He said to me Maria, I wrote a song about you and he said just come down to CBGBs in Manhattan, be there at midnight. I said, Joey, I'm sorry to tell you but I have to be on the air at 6am and I can't be anywhere at midnight except in my bed, so I didn't go." Instead, at Ramone's urging, she sent a camera crew. "Sure enough, the cameraman came back with the tape and there's him and his band with this song Maria Bartiromo and I just love it. It's a tremendous tribute. I just love that. It's great, just great." The song was on Ramone's final album, released after his death from lymphoma in 2001. The first verse pretty much sums it up:

What's happening on Wall Street
What's happening at the stock exchange
I want to know
What's happening on Squawk Box
What's happening with my stocks
I want to know
I watch you on the TV every single day
Those eyes make everything OK"

Joey Ramone passed away on this date in 2001. Spinning this in tribute:

It's hard to believe he's been gone that long! It's hard to believe Joey's death was only five years removed from what was essentially their last hurrah, the Lollapalooza festivals in 1996. I was always glad I got to see the Ramones live. They would never be in my top 40 bands of all time, but I always appreciated what they did for the punk scene.

To me, those guys are very much alive. My boss, 57 or so, likes music - buys cheaps CDs -
and he knows I like music too - ( we don't associate much) and asks me if I would like to borrow a cd or two - so I brought in to work a CD holder for him -
put a Ramones CD in - with Sinatra, Clancy Brothers, Jim Croce - etc
He listened to the Ramones - lol - out of curiousity -
didn't say if he liked it or not - Wink

Marky Ramone's book "Punk Rock Blitzkrieg" is pretty good.
A couple parts made me laugh out loud, and you might if you are a Ramones fan and get NY humor.
