But still, you have Hershel and other family members retreating EVERY day to the barn to go feed the walkers. One of the family members stands on top of the hay loft and dumps the live, but broken legged chickens over the edge. I'm sure they had to be casual observers of what took place next (regarding the feeding frenzy). With that being said, one would then assume that one of Hershel's family members would have noticed a little girl among the lot.

Until something is explained to the viewer regarding the walkers and needing human beings or other animals for purposes of sustainability, I will stick to the theory that human beings/animal flesh is nothing more than a delicacy. Hell, we saw a walker who was hanging from a tree one episode with all his flesh gone from the waist down. Yet, that walker seemed to be as responsive as the other ones we have seen on foot.

Good point about the feedings, I'd forgotten that part. But I doubt they hung around to watch the ensuing feeding frenzy. I'm sure the fact that mom or Aunt Gert turning into a zombie would be horrifying enough without watching them rip a live chicken apart & shovel the gore into their mouths. Of course, it's probably just a plot hole no one TPTB never thought of until it was all said & done. As for why they eat, that has never been explained. Even the "academic" zombie books like Max Brooks' Survival Guide & WWZ basically say its just something they do. No rhyme or reason, not for nourishment or taste, they just eat the flesh of the living for shits & giggles.

I just got done talking with my brother, who got me into the show at some point last season. He brought up this point: How the hell did Otis manage to put a walker into the barn, while other walkers were still in there? Not only did he have to unlock the barn door, but then he would have to fend off other walkers as he released his newly captured one. Even if he had help this would have been a huge task, and they guy was not the epitome of what one would call athletic. He was a meal waiting to happen...

HA! No, he wasn't. Shane realized he didn't have to out run the walkers, just Otis. Probably could have saved the bullet too. In the books, it took a couple of people to get a walker in the barn, but they did have a system. Another plot hole. But then again, they've gone a bit off the reservation in regard to the source material.

I don't think Herschell's family knew or didn't know whether the zombies "needed" to eat or not...they were just assuming they needed to be fed since they were seemingly always ravenous and starving...they were trying to keep them "alive" til a cure was found.

Right on. Herschel and company looked at these as sick people.They just assumed they needed to eat for nourishment.

^^ 7 or 8 episodes left in this season, I think...and AMC just green-lighted a third season (16 more episodes)...woot!

On a somewhat related note, last night the wife and I tried (note I said "tried") to watch a new zombie flick on the "Chiller" network called "Steve Niles' Remains" (Steve Niles is a graphic novelist who also wrote "30 Days of Night")... and it was godawful. Cheap sets, lame script, bad acting. Looks like Chiller wanted to jump on the "Walking Dead" bandwagon here, but they were tryin' to do it on a SyFy Channel budget, if you catch my drift. We bailed out on it after about an hour.

They're showing the first season tonight from 7-1:30 A.M and the second season from 12:30-8 tomorrow, and then finally a new episode. Enjoy boys, it should be a kick arse episode!

I've only seen the first season, as here in europe the show is censored to hell (even worse in the TV version, they took out 20 minutes from the Pilot for example), so i had to import the BR Set from the US and so i also have to wait for the US BR Release of Season 2.

I really enjoyed it, it's a well done show, good story, lots of violent fun.

New episode last night was cool...it's gonna suck when the second half of the season is over...I think it's only going to be 6 episodes.

Well, I was wondering when some stragglers would start showing up. I knew once the beefy guy started to pissing on the floor of the bar that these two were no good. The next shot was when they panned over to Rick, and you just knew he was going to eventually have to take those two guys out. Hell, if it would have been Shane at the saloon, he might have shot the guy when he was pissing. Unfortunately not everyone is good in the world, even after an apocalypse. I'm starting to wonder if we'll be taken down that road like that of Stephen King's "The Stand", minus the religious angle?

It's supposedly starting back up on April 1st. It's a good show.Looking forward to it coming back.

Great show!!! I will let you know when there is a marathon coming up. I'm sure AMC will do this before the second season starts.

Keith, it looks like starting on March 4th AMC will start showing season 1 episodes starting Sunday March 4th. There were 13 episodes, so I imagine they will be spreading them out nicely in anticipation of the beginning of the second season, which starts on April 1st. If you like the character Daryl Dixon from the Walking Dead, then I think you will also like Detective Stephen Holder of The Killing. He's the guy pictured here at the site. The whole cast kicks ass though! I'm assuming you have a DVR?
