Okay, so being in high school now I find this one problem: People who think they're listening to cool music call it "Screamo..." In my opinion, it's either some form of METAL or it doesn't deserve a sub-genre name at all. All of this Emo crap drives me crazy and I want some real METAL-HEADS' opinions on what they've encountered with this issue! I mean, since when is it okay to call something stupid like The Devil Wears Prada or Attack Attack! METAL? Who's teaching these kids.....?

I hate it, too, but occasionally it gets kids into real metal later on. I've always viewed the Screamo and Metalcore crap as a "gateway drug" into better things. Like Dead To Fall or Avenged Sevenfold? Here, let me play you some old In Flames. Like it? Ok...next step, At The Gates. Loved At The Gates? Cool...lets go back to Entombed. Or Slayer. Or...

You have to think like a pusher, like a cult leader. Take their BS, find the strengths it draws upon, and give 'em something stronger. The only ones who are hopeless are the ones who won't give the other bands a chance, because they only listen to what is trendy because it is trendy--to them, the "music" is merely a means unto an end, and not the end itself. I've dealt with this a lot--in fact, it was pretty much par for the course waaaaay back when I was in school. Some people are simply born to be sheep and scenesters. They'll get theirs; their curse is they have to be them for the rest of their lives, because I think you'll find that pattern/lifestyle and those habits really do extend to all areas of life.

That's a good point Stigmatador! I mean, you have a great thought on how to deal with it, but sometimes it just gets ridiculous. I mean, I have tried what you described, and it seems now that my generation is just lost. All they want is Rap and stupid Emo/Screamo crap, and I'm somehow the freak because I wear my Death METAL T-shirts everyday. I once ever wore my denim jacket with patches all over it and people reported me to the principal's office. The METAHEAD is a dying breed in my world, but hopefully it will better itself as I move up the later of society.

No, I'm not actually twenty-two. I just adjusted my birth-date slightly so that Heart of METAL would let me make an account.

my kids are into screamo or emo or whatever. I hope they grow out of it. They dont like my music.

This is my message to the nu scene-sters...

High school hasn't changed much even 12+ years ago since I was there. There will always be the kids that listen to music because it's what's in. Hang in there, metal fans are always there somewhere. Even if you don't meet them you can find them in places like this. I was worried about the youth as far as music goes but this place has changed my mind. From the young guys we have here and the children of the older members thre is always hope. So let the sheep have their talentless, tuneless music and keep true to yourself.

I think some people will only ever like what radio or some stupid TV show tells them to like and they will never ever investigate other music and break away from the crowd so that they can develop their own style.
