Ooh, this sounds promising.

Quote:
FATES WARNING/OSI guitarist Jim Matheos and former FATES WARNING singer John Arch are currently working together on a new full-length album that will be released in late spring/early summer via Metal Blade Records. The band, called ARCH/MATHEOS, began tracking the drums on January 12 and will continue to record through mid-February with both John Arch and Jim Matheos producing the album. ARCH/MATHEOS features an all-star lineup including the talents of Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, ANTHRAX, FATES WARNING, SEVEN WITCHES) on bass, Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, FATES WARNING, SEBASTIAN BACH, RIOT) on drums, and Frank Aresti (FATES WARNING) on additional lead guitar.

Arch's solo EP, "A Twist Of Fate", was released in 2003 through Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at the Carriage House studios in Stamford, Connecticut and featured guest appearances by Matheos, ex-DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy and Vera.

I heard about this. It sounds pretty good; about as close to a real Fates Warning reunion that we will get.

Every time I listen to A Twist of Fate I'm amazed at how awesome John's voice still is. It's a brilliant little EP.

Yeah I totally agree. I'm glad that Matheos has explored all his other avenues and realized it was time to reunite with Arch.

Cool - will have to check it out. I guess I am the only one that prefers Ray Alder on HoM.

I like both eras of FW. Still, this is as close to a Arch/FW reunion as they can get...

So it looks like the album that Fates Warning was working on ended up becoming Arch Matheos because Ray had a conflict in his work schedule preventing it from being a Fates Warning album...Jim did not write 2 separate albums.

Well...hmmm. Though I love newer Fates—I even consider FWX one of their best—it's nothing like the Arch-era stuff. So were they working on a heavier, more old school album, or will this be a mellower, more introspective work with Arch singing?

Glad that Aresti is adding solos too. I missed that aspect.

This has the potential to be the album of the year.

From what I can gather, in an interview with Rock Hard TV (Germany), Ray states that Jim had all this music ready and Ray's work schedule conflicted with getting it finished. Since Jim doesn't like to wait around, he called Arch to sing on it. I doubt very seriously it was any attempt at an "old school" type of album as this is historically not how Jim operates.

Thanks for the link.

Not sure what I think about this song yet. I do know that I miss Zonder's drumming.

Sounds good. Nothing amazing, but very good.

Actually, I take that back. Arch's voice is amazing. I can't believe he can still sing like that!

I do love the Blabbermouth comments like this one:

Quote:
Now THAT is what I'm talking about. That's what *I* remember as "Fates Warning".

Must be remembering the post-Arch Fates Warning then, eh? Because this sounds nothing like the early stuff aside from the vocals. Musically, no way. The opening riff and the verse riffs are straight out of the 90s grunge/nu-metal scene! (Not that I have an issue with that.)

But hey, I guess being blindly positive about something is better than the norm over at that shit-hole.

Now I remember why I don't own any Fates Warning albums, Arch's voice drives me NUTS. Sounds like someone is strangling a cat out of key.
