SYSTEM HAS FAILED...no contest. That was one of the best comeback records ever.

I had high hopes for WORLD NEEDS A HERO when it was released, cuz it was hyped as a return to form after the RISK disaster, but I was mostly disappointed with it other than a few songs. It just sounded half baked to me.

I voted for System, but The World Needs a Hero is no slouch either as far as I'm concerned.

Definitely System, Hero has always seemed a bit lifeless to me. A few great tracks but nothing special.

I love both, actually I got them both at the same time and could never decide which I preferred. But I'll mix things up and go with World Needs a Hero. Some real killer tracks on that one: Dread and the Fugitive Mind, Return to Hangar, When, Promises, and Warhorse all are favorites.

System. I enjoyed that record a ton more than Hero.

System.

Hero is okay, but I think System is one of their best.

Oh this is a no brainer - System!

But if you insist here's why:

The World Needs a Hero seems to me like a poor man's Countdown to Extinction. While it has some good songs, most of the material seems kinda lifeless - Dave has a spoken rant in nearly every song and there are no real memorable riffs or solos anywhere to be found. In all fairness, this album came right after Risk and it was Dave's first attempt at recapturing the older Megadeth sound. Ironically it was the two songs released on the compilation that sounded far better than most of the material on TWNAH.

Personally, with the exception of Risk, I don't think Dave needed to or really needs to go back to anything. I think the best period in Megadeth's history was from Countdown to Cryptic Writings. Many may not share my opinion but as I see it - Megadeth in the 90s had more variety and a healthy mix of older sounding songs and fresh ones than any of the other big 3.

That's why I think System is much better liked than most of the other recent Megadeth albums since TWNAH. It's got that balance which Countdown, Youthanasia and Cryptic offered wrapped around a heavier sound.

System Has Failed easily, it's one of their best records. World Needs A Hero was mediocre at best.

I like them both, but System Has Failed is better IMO.

SYSTEM!!! Couldn't wait for this disc to hit the shelves when it came out... and I was not disappointed. Hero is still a SOLID disc, but not even close to the same caliber as System.
