| Yeah, I saw that live last night when I was watching the news. I lived in San Jose when the Loma Prieta Quake hit in 1989(that was only a few seconds, I heard this was a few minutes with aftershocks that were in the 6-7 magnitude). That tsunami was horrible to watch...... knowing people and cars couldn't escape.

| Yeah, I was up early this AM (5:15) cuz our son's school called us to say they'd be closed today due to heavy rains and flooding in our area. I turned on the TV, figuring there was no point in going back to sleep, and saw what was going on. Insane. _________________ "Boys, set the terror level at code brown, 'cause I need to change my pants." -- President Hathaway, "Monsters vs. Aliens"

| Was just headed to bed last night when I turned on the news and saw this. Crazy. The waves made it here about an hour ago, but nothing to cause alarm. They had our beaches and some highways closed.
Like Chewie, I was here for the Loma Prieta quake in '89. Quite the rattler, and that doesn't even compare to this. |

| I didnt pass out until after 4 this morning because the whole westcoast was on alert...my parents back door is like a 3 minute walk to the beach. Tsunami siren was going off literally all night. I think we ended up getting like a 6-9 ft. surge. Everythings cool here though, cant imagine what a 8.9 earthquake felt like. _________________ |

| Events like this put one's own life in perspective. My heart goes out to all those killed or injured in this terrible tragedy. In a related note, I was reading on Yahoo, how one random astrologer yesterday predicted horrible catastrophic activities for this year, based on the all the solar flare activity and the closer proximity of the moon in relation to the earth. Pretty scary stuff.... |

| The pictures are simply unbelievable. And the after effects just keep getting worse. Now the area around that damaged nuclear plant is testing at 1000x the normal radioactive levels. They've evacuated everyone within a 30km radius. I really can't even wrap my mind around the extent of the devastation. _________________ "Don't reenact scenes from 'Platoon' with Charlie Sheen."

| Yeah it's terrible... It doesn't help that they're on a small overpopulated island surrounded by a earthquake prone ocean floor.

| This new Tsunami reminded me of the one back in 2004 in Indonesia... That one was a 9.2!
The 8.9 that just happened caused just as much devastaion if not more because of the dense population and modern industrial buildings. |

| It's terrible to see all the boats and other vehicles just being tossed around in the water, buildings burning, people in distress. Prayers go out for the people of Japan. |

| I've got quite close family in Tokyo. They're all fine, but apparently it's bedlam there. Everyone's stocking up on supplies and fearing for the worst as aftershocks keep happening. |

Surrounded by water on all sides must suck in this situation. |

| It is fascinating to read and see how the Japanese behaves in this situation. There are no riots, no robbing of stores, they stand in queues for help/food for hours without fights breaking out. Amazing. That would never happen here in the west..... |

| Seeing that the news is hardly showing how bad it really it, I can only imagine what they are going through. A good friend of mine has a friend who lives in Japan and was spared from the major damage. They said that ten miles north of them, a whole city is basically destroyed. Too crazy.
We should count the many blessings that we aren't going through that and also to pray for those enduring such hard, difficult, and unimaginable times. |
