You're starting a rock band. You just need a bassist. Your choices are Cliff Williams and Ian Hill. Who do you hire and for what reason?

Ian Hill

He is so solid and is totally locked in with the drums, a true professional.

They'd both have their advantages.

With Cliff I could write one song in A for 30 years and alter the words. Which would be fun.
With Ian, I could write one song in G for 30 years and alter the words, but be less successful.

Either one would be fine. Neither are great in my book, but they are solid. The kicker is, they're easy to please. With either Cliff or Ian, all you do is outline the foot marks on stage where they're going to stand for the rest of the evening (and tell them not to move from that spot). They seem to listen and maybe get one spot light that night on them, which like I said is probably gratifying for both men. Then you pay them in sandwiches or t-shirt sales from that night and head onto the next gig...

either one, though Cliff is a bit more of a showman so I would probabaly take him, just due to liking what & how he did in the Let There be Rock movie

i'd pick Ian because i'd be more likely to start a metal band than a rock band.

Cliff is also a decent vocalist, so I might have to go with him. I'd say Ian is a better player, but Cliff at least has some personality.

Ian for these same reasons; I would want a band with as little personality as possible, while still being extremely skilled.

Cliff all the way, it's not even close.

He has a ridiculous punchy groove.
