Likewise. I think I had about 3 hours sleep. Today is a day off, so I can more or less get by with bumping into things and making a bit of a mess. Got about 100 albums to sort though today - yep, I get them all just after pay day and spend 4 weeks working through them. Love it!

I have even considered taking a job with less hours to drink coffee and spin music. I spend on on average 40 hours a month just getting to and from work (the flask is uber important!)

Get a job as a DJ, I think that they will pay you to spin records and let you drink coffee while you're at it! Very Happy

I switched to tea for the last 2 days just to change things up a bit. Meh. I'm going back to the bean tomorrow. This is for saps.

The only time I drink hot tea anymore is when I have a cold. My wife has tons of those fancy-schmancy herbal and fruit flavored teas that I never even look at any other time, but when I'm sick I snork that stuff down like it's going out of style.

So does coffee really give anyone here an actual jolt? I don't ever recall a time that the drink provided more energy. The only reason i drink it in the morning is because of routine and flavor/aroma. Surely someone else here doesn't get the traditional tasmanian devil syndrome after two cups

Earlier this week it was 17 degrees below zero and I threw coffee down the neck to thaw out. There are no Starbucks in Western North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Cowboy coffee to the rescue. It is in the high 40's now and we can finish taking our toys home for the winter.

I wouldn't call it a "jolt" per se but it does help me finish the waking-up process. I mean, I'm not about to go running any 5K's after two cups but if I don't get mah cawfee in the AM I'm pretty much useless till lunch time.

Yea, sometimes. If I go without for a day or 2, I notice a jolt with my first cup back. Dunkin Donuts coffee tends to hit me harder than my regular home or work brews.

My wife claims that Starbucks coffee makes her heart race and I've heard similiar stories from others that drink it.

Like FF said, I wouldn't call it a "jolt" per se, but it definitely helps me wake up.  And as I said before, if I don't get a caffeine fix in the morning I get a splitting headache so it's obviously doing something to me physically.

Oh yea, I've gotten the "withdraw headaches" if I skip, so there is no doubt in my mind that it's causing some sort of addiction. Every coupla of months, I'll stop cold turkey just to kinda reboot my system and those first 2 days are rough, lemme tell ya.

Coffee is less of a jolt than all of a sudden I find myself talking faster and my heart racing if I have too much of it.

Then again, nothing will ever "jolt" me again after working in a Borders and being friends with one of the baristas in the coffee shop. I had gotten maybe two hours of sleep the night before and the guy put... I think it was 11 espresso shots in this amazing drink he gave me.

I was wondering why customers were looking at me funny while I was working the register and then I realized I was speaking so quickly my lips were creating sonic booms...

Interesting. I will say that I tend to get palpitations after more than two cups, and have gone into Afib a couple times from drinking all day. But it no longer seems to give me that promised wake-up call. Maybe I should try staying off of it for a week as an experiment.

I've actually switched from soda to tea (hot and iced) and it serves two purposes:

1.) If I actually need a "jolt," coffee or an energy drink will do the job and then some because tea has much less caffeine than both.

2.) I don't have to worry about not getting ANY caffeine - so no headaches.

Oh, believe you me, I'm thinking about it. If things work out my way, I might be looking at work all over the place. I've got a house to clean tomorrow morning, I'm going to start at 8:00 with a double shot of something strong!

I wouldn't say I get a jolt, but it is mood-altering. I definitely get very happy and a sense of peace and satisfaction once the caffeine hits. I can sleep immediately after having coffee.

Ever since I started drinking coffee, I've had more compassion for hardcore drugs users and smokers/chewers/dippers. I never did any of that stuff, and didn't understand addiction. Now I do. I know that if coffee has me in its grips how much worse those other things must be.

As an ex-smoker (11 years as of last month), I can tell you I think beating my caffeine addiction would be worse.  When I quit smoking cold turkey in October of 2003, the only "urges" I had were psychological; I didn't really feel any physical consequences other than being a little more tired in the morning (I used to start my day with coffee AND cigarettes).

If I had to quit coffee for some health reason, I actually think the physical withdrawal symptoms would be a lot worse than when I quit smoking.

I must've jinxed myself by typing this. After I posted this earlier today I slowly felt myself coming down with a little hack/sniffle. Since I've been home I've sucked down about a gallon of lemon tea. Sad

You're right about tea and a cold FF.  I don't know if there's any scientific evidence to back I it up but I swear I feel better if I have a scratchy or sore throat and I drink some lemon honey tea.

Of course, I bought about a gallon of Jagermeister at Sam's a couple weeks ago and that has the same calming effect on my throat AND it puts me to sleep.

Ex-smoker here, can confirm. I felt the same way. Now I need to find out what quitting coffee for a week is like.

Okay, you guys have helped me feel less feeble. I've tried quitting coffee a few times, but my head hurts so much and I get nauseated bad enough that I just say "eff it" and drink some coffee. About 5-10 minutes after it hits my stomach I can feel the headache washing away.

Now, I used to drink more coffee 4-6 cups a day, but I'd get some anxiety with it. I'm now a 3 cup a day guy, and I have to space them out so I don't get a headache. Morning, afternoon, evening. I like it like that. There's always one to look forward to.

Oh man, I had a chocolate thrown at me in work the other day (one of those small button ones). It landed in my coffee. Actually wanted to cry.

This seems to be my method of choice at the moment for making morning coffee. Not so much mess cleaning out the filter machine. Apologies about the YouTube video, they explain it much better than me (if you excuse the 'extras').

Anyone else keep a jar of coffee at their desk in work? I have the joyous occasion on starting a new one tomorrow. Got it in my bag ready to take with me. Small, but, pleasurable things for the workplace gets me through the day.

Well, as it turns out, I am now one step closer to getting a coffee machine next to my desk. I have setup an business that I hope will eventually allow me to work from home. It's going to take time, but the first CDs have turned up and I hope to get this fully going over the next few weeks in time for the new year. By the power and dream of having a coffee machine next to my desk, working from home, I will make this happen!
