Or driving a bus. No shame in that. Look at the luxurious life Ralph Kramden led. Very Happy

I thought he was leaning toward the Sylvester Stallone "Over the Top" truck driver thing.

or Kurt Russell in 'Big Trouble in Little China"

I heard it's not that easy to land a Postman job...

The Trashman idea is a good one. It's not glamorous but it pays well.

i did a summer intern project riding with the trashmen in my town and it is a good job. People associate it with mindless gruntwork but it was eye-opening to me, although it didnt smell very good.

Eyesore is right - the amount of stuff you can get is out of this world...

Those two jobs are quite good; I think they're unionized, too, so not as much of the smurf poo you had at this last job could happen here Razz
Troublezone is right, though, getting to be a postman is tough to do, but there are many government jobs of this sort that pay well and have fairly good benefits. You should at least consider some of 'em, even if you do go on to other things in the end.

I moved to Montana last September from No. Cal. I hauled explosives to local mines on a six month contract (oct. 2010 thru Apr. 2011) and cleared amost two grand a week after expenses. In May. I went to work for a highway paving company and make a very good living with exceptional benefit package. Truck driving can be very lucrative. You just gotta be willing to relocate. Like already mentioned. OTR (over the road) isn't the only option for new truck driviers but for those in your circumstance (living with parent and single) the OTR route is probably your best option. Drive three months and come home for a week and repeat. Once a year, kick back for a few weeks and continue the process. Live in your truck and save your $. In a few years, you can buy your own truck and do whatever you like. You have an entire country to look for the perfect trucking job for you. Owner/Operators make very good money, Take good care of your equipment and it will pay itself off and make you big bucks quick.

Look at it it this way....see the country and earn money. Traffic is an issue part of the time....trust me....most truck driving OTR is done out in the middle of nowhere.

Well, the trucking is still a last resort. I have an interview with Firestone tomorrow so, God willing I'm down but not out.

Hang in there Dallas. This world can be a cruel and terrible place sometimes. But good will come your way. Keep your chin up and keep your faith in tact. Things will get better.

Or I can do what this big bellied and balding old guy does. Stand out in front of a shopping center holding a sign that says, "I need a job". Everytime I see the guy, I want to tell him he is not going to get a job standing around holding a sign, but I'm pretty sure he knows that.

I will find out tomorrow whether or not I will get a job with Firestone. I was sent to take an assessment test and the results would determine whether I get a second interview and I know I did well on it. I changed my story about the mistakes I made at Honda. I told him there was a three strike policy and no drain plug (the one that was caught before the customer got it) was the first strike, the drain plug not being tight and comming out (I mentioned nothing about the damage done to the engine) was the second, and that on the third strike I forgot to put the oil cap back on (not mentioning forgetting the oil). Firestone has co-workers double check each other's work so he said those mistakes will not be the reason if I don't get the job.

I can't believe this crap! Bankston Honda just took my last paycheck back. It's like a kick in the nuts and I'm so mad I can't stand it. I can't get a hold of human resources and if I don't get a call back from them I will be on the hunt. That money is desperatly needed by me and I'll be damned if I let these pieces of crap keep it from me.

it was probably direct deposited automatically, then withdrew.

It was direct deposit as mc666 said. I have a pay stub that says 'manual check net' and the amount. So chances are they retracted it to send a final (including the money I earned on my last two days) paper check. However, the retraction gave me a $35 overdraft fee and the bank can only waive half of that. The only option is to ask Honda to pay the overdraft fee and I have doubts they will do that.

I'm still waiting on the HR represenative to call me back (she is apparently in Houston for a conference), I have already left two messages. I just hope they're not withholding my last paycheck because of the engine damage. I know I signed a paper saying they can take x amount of dollars out of each paycheck, but I only signed it because it was a condition for my continuation of employment which means my dissmissal should void that.

As I feared, it was taken back becuase of the previous agreement. I also found out I have no legal recourse. I can only try to plead with them to let me have my last payment or get a copy of the agreement and see if it allows them to keep all my pay. I hate my freakin' life, nothing ever goes right. Looks more and more like trucking in my future.

do you have to pay more than what they took in your pay check?
