Eyesore is right here. Offer to pay the deductible required for their insurance to cover the repair, I doubt it would be more than $500 and probably much less.

If they refuse, screw 'em, $10 an hour ain't worth it.

It ain't illegal at Tom Chucklewalter's HONDA & DAEWOO

Wow they don't even sell the whole front of a car either Laughing

On a serious note.... I don't think they can really make you pay that. Isn't this a new job that you started at recently, and is it your first mistake there?

A bunch of years ago this happened to a girl I was going out with. She got her oil changed at wal mart and the guy actually tightened the bolt but he stripped it. They got wal mart to pay for the damage and I'm really doubtful that it came out of the workers pocket.

I would talk to someone higher up than whoever told you about paying for it. That just doesn't sound right at all.

Well, I was told today that the 4k (hey that rhymes! Very Happy ) is the most it could cost, that it will be less. I still plan on talking to them but only when they have the final amount figured out. It's doubtful they want me to quit or fire me because so many people there have caused much more damage than I have. Case in point, our current team leader. He has left lug nuts off of tires (on several occasions) and one time caused $6k in damage to some ladies aparatus on top of her minivan when he drove it out of the shop before he had proper clearance. My mess up didn't put anybody's life in danger as did some other people's mistakes (like the missing lug nuts).

BTW, I am allowed to do used car state inspections. My team leader was just trying to screw me over so he'd have a lot of state inspections when he'd come back from vacation. Of course (as I described him in my opening post) with his the way he does the used states, I smelled a rat, especially when one manager expressed confussion when I asked him when I could do them again. My suspitions were confirmed when the other manager reacted the same way.

Dallas Black it sounds like you work with a bunch of dumb asses and also where is this place you work at, so if my car begins to break down, I go nowhere near this place.

This kind of stuff happens more often in shops than you'd think. Basically if a technician doesn't screw up every now and then, they're not working much. Of course in dealerships where you only get paid for the time alloted for you for each job (comission work) it happens more. If your doing a job that only pays 4 hours and it's taken you 5, you tend to rush it increasing you chance of a screw up. Come to think of it, the job I screwed on was a job I rushed (the service advisor was being rushed by the customer which in turn had him rushing me).

So if any of you take your vehicle to a dealership on a day where they are really busy (like the day in question) and it takes a little longer than you want, remember us in the shop (most of us anyways-unlike our team leader) are doing the best we can to get it ready for you.

DB, it seems like your team leader needs to go with the moves he's making on you.

I agree but unfortunatly, him and the previous team leader have done these things to others (one guy I was told actually choke slamed our current team leader one time because of his crap) but management doesn't care as long as the work gets done. It is because of this that once I've been here for a year (giving me the experience needed to hold and ASE and get a better job) I'm outta here.

I hate being rush with anything. The one thing I hate when I'm delivering mail is when someone comes out of there house to get their mail from me. I either don't pay attention and just hand them the mail thinking its theirs but because they didn't get any that day it ends up being the next house. I actually did that today LOL! I hate being bothered I rather people just stay in the house til I'm gone I always end up missing a package or something when I'm stopped by someone. I have a lot of patience. If I want something done right I leave the person alone and let them do their job. When its done its done.

There was a rumor going around that I would only owe a thousand and I got my hopes up. Turns out the rumor was false and I was quoted $3400. I have come to the conclusion that there is no way I will pay that. I will offer them $1000 which is a lot of money and 72% of my savings (which I only had due to cashing out early of my Wal-Mart 401K). I figured out using my average paychecks as of late that even if they have me pay it off in a year (which they said is the maxium period for me to pay it off) by taking it out of my pay, I will be more or less working for less than minium wage. I didn't go 20K+ in debt and go to school over a year to make what I did when I worked in high school. I must take a stand on this, punishing me for my mistake is one thing but if they insist on making me pay the full amount, it's just malicious.

I ONLY SIGNED THE WARNING I WAS GIVEN. YOU KNOW HOW THEY WILL GIVE A VERBAL WARNING AND THEN THE NEXT ONE WILL BE IN WRITING. THAT IS WHAT I SIGNED, SAYING I DID SCREW UP AND THAT $4000 WAS THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF DAMAGE I CAUSED. THERE WAS NO SET AMOUNT AGREED ON, IT WAS JUST TO SAY I UNDERSTOOD WHAT I DID WRONG. I WILL NOT QUIT, BUT I WILL SEEK EMPLOYMENT ELSEWHERE IN MY SPARE TIME.

I am going to leave, but I need another job . I don't have any other source of income and my dad is having financial problems of his own. Leaving just now with no back up plan is just not an option. I'd love to just tell them to shove it an leave now, but it's just not practical. Besides, it's easier to find a job when you're employed than when you're not.

Yes, it would be stupid to quit without another job lined up already.
