Don't feel bad. I did too... for over a month, and I'm the guy writing it.

I've been playing catch up this whole time anyways. Way to finish this thing out Freddy. I'm guessing this will be the last review we Dokken fans will be seeing from you for quite a long while, regarding this band. I think Don is 58 now? His voice is shot! Not Mark Slaughter shot, but shot nonetheless. Though, I guess you could review the Tooth & Nail project, when it comes out.

There's one more release to go (the "Greatest Hits" re-recording thing from a year or so ago) and then it's done till Don, or George/Jeff/Mick's Tooth & Nail project, releases something.

Only problem is I don't have the re-recording thingy so I'm gonna have to sample some tracks from it via YouTube (assuming some songs from it can be found there) in order to do the write up.

the "Greatest Hits" re-recording

I am a huge Dokken fan from the very beginning. This rerecorded album is horrible to me...especially 'Alone Again". Don just can't hit the high notes like he used to could.
I got "back for the attack" and Dons album "Up From the Ashes" for Christmas. (I have been replacing my old 80s metal albums) They are awesome.
I recommend staying away from the rerecorded greatest hits album.

Guess we may as well wrap this puppy up, folks....

Dokken's most recent studio album is a compilation simply titled GREATEST HITS, which was released on Japan's King Records and Cleopatra Records (grooooaaaaan) in the U.S. in May of 2010. It is a collection of newly re-recorded versions of classic Dokken tracks plus two new songs - "Almost Over" and "Magic Man." The Japanese edition includes two extra songs, covers of the Hollies' "Bus Stop" and "Lies" by the Knickerbockers.

I honestly don't have much to say about this one since I do not own it yet. I'm not a particularly big fan of re-recordings and after listening to the two "new" songs via YouTube, I can't say that either one is a major selling point. I mean, they're OK, but still nothing to make me wanna rush right out to the record store (or place an order with Amazon) for this disc.

Sooooo, since I don't own the album and therefore can't give you much of an opinion on it, I'll just close this out by regurgitating some of the useless trivia about it from the album's Wikipedia entry.

...in 2011, this album was apparently re-released under the title THE ANTHEMS with new cover art by a new label, Store For Music Ltd., which was news to me. Pretty bitchin' cover art though, I like this better than the original cover. If and when I ever do bother to get my hands on this album, I may go for this version based on the cover alone.

...GREATEST HITS also marks the recording debut of new Dokken bassist Sean McNabb, formerly of Great White, but he only plays on the two Japanese bonus tracks (the Hollies and Knickerbockers covers). The bass on the rest of the album was played by Barry Sparks.

...and I guess that'll do it for this thread unless someone from the Dokken camp coughs up something new in 2012. Supposedly George and Jeff's "Tooth & Nail" project is due soon, which will feature re-recorded versions of some Dokken classics (arrrrgh!) along with some new tracks, but there's been no news on the actual "Dokken" front. Maybe Don's still trying to get his hands on that unprotected chicken.

Thanks to all for reading this thread, even though it took me forever to do the last couple of entries. If and when I do start another discography thread I swear I won't drag it out as long as I did this one.

Till then...keep rockin' with Dokken! (Sorry, I had to say it.)

Excellent job and personally I hate this trend of re-recording their classic cuts, I may one day buy this album but not anytime soon.

Good Job Homey......don't worry bout follwing through on that restraining order. Somehow I lost the live feed hook-up, go figure.

I like the newer cover of the final entry better myself. Not really interested in purchase. ALL the Dokken I want and need is the first four studios and live releases. All on vinyl. I "think" that I may own a best of on cd ?

I've always been a fan of Dokken. I've always considered them to be much closer to the Metal side of the house than the Glam or Pop side of the house. George's playing is superb and unique.

Breaking The Chains was an okay debut with some mostly decent cuts but the title track and Paris Is Burning are very good.

This was my first Dokken album and I bought it from the "imports" section when it first came out. Didn't know anything about the band, but thought it was good, especially the guitar work. My favorite is Paris is Burning and at the time thought it was their second or third album because the track was live. Thought it strange that a debute album had a live track. Breakin the chains had a great solo. After exhausting the track Paris is Burning I shelved the album. Might just break it out and spin it again.
