Very weak stuff. Never got into them at all but my wife thought they were cool back in the day.

Excellent harmonies.

Excellent hooks.

Excellent choruses.

Very homogonized and processed for the (then) masses...much like Daughtry or Kenny Chesney.

Get the new album, it's GRRRRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up with Nelson's AFTER THE RAIN when I bought a pile of CDs at a yard sale a year or two back. Listened to it once or twice and...ick. Way too slick, too sappy, too sweet, too... too (*barf*)

Seriously, this album should've been marketed as a "My First Rock Band" kit aimed at twelve year old girls. (TV Commercial: "They're Cute! They ROCK! They're totally Non-Threatening! Make sure to tell your Moms that these boys are Ricky's kids!!") It should've come packaged with dolls of Gunnar and Matthew.

I hated them and still hate them.

Believe it or not, they are distant cousins of mine. I did meet them & their father when they were much younger before anybody knew who they were. They are either a little younger or older than me, cant remember though. No I don't own any albums from them but do own some of their fathers stuff.

That first album isn't so bad. I like stuff with hooks, so I find myself gravitating to that album on occasion.



It's not a top favorite by any means ... but it's a decent album if you are in the mood for some slick hard rock.



I think the comparison to Justin Beiber and the Jonas Brothers is a bit harsh. At the time Nelson came out - they were aimed at the commercial masses of MTV. Not little girls. There were other bands of the day doing that. (Milli Vanilli anyone?)

Not really a fan, but I have to say, the solo on can't live without your love (and affection) kicks ass!

I've never owned an album by these guys. No balls.

After the Rain still gets repeat plays, EVERY song is just perfect! That said, I dig the other releases as well! Yes they are slick/polished/pretty/whatever, but they got more hooks than a Peter Pan convention and don't forget the rockin tune they did as Power Tool on the Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure Soundtrack, "Two Heads Are Better Than One!"

Actually went to the show in Seattle on the After The Rain tour and they killed live! I recall House Of Lords opened that one.

chewie, those samps are actually pretty cool. Ironically, they sound nothing at all like some of the 'other' bands at the time who were actually trying to alter their music to sound more 'alternative'. This is true to hard rock.

I got After the Rain and Lighting Strikes Twice is in the mail!

The samples that Chewie provided sound NOTHING like what I remember of Nelson.

I only seen one or two videos, especially one being on Beavis & Butthead, and it did nothing for me at all.

IF I heard the 2 rockin' songs above first, would have been a fan immediately!

Another factor is that music from bands like Nelson was over produced and polished in the 80s/early 90s, while in the late 90s and these days they are less so (compare After The Rain to Lightning Strikes Twice or any 80s Night Ranger album to Somewhere In California and you'll hear the difference).

I was just looking around on the youtube and found those samples. Those two late 90's albums sound pretty good! I might just pick 'em up. I think that they learned from their Dad about doing what you want, to heck with trends and what other people want(or think). He wrote a song about it........ It goes somethin' like this:

The date: October 15th 1971. Madison Square Garden, New York City. The Event: the 7th Annual Rock-N-Roll Revival Show. It was a concert that featured a collection of artists who were unearthed on stage and on vinyl in the 1950′s. They were the musical roots that allowed Rock-N-Roll to grow. There was Chuck Berry on stage, doing his famous duckwalk while reeling off hits like Maybelline, Sweet Little Sixteen and Johnny B Goode. Rick took to the stage and began playing his set with a few of his 50′s hits, then began performing his new material with his Stone Canyon Band. The songs had a smooth country rock feel to them. The Stone Canyon Band once feature a young 25-year-old bassist named Randy Meisner, who would later join Poco, then help form the first lineup of a new band called The Eagles. The crowd didn’t get it. A loud rumble of booing began to sweep over the Garden. Rick Nelson was experiencing something he had never felt before: An unappreciative audience. It affected Rick deeply. So much in fact that he went home after the show and began writing about the experience: I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends A chance to share old memories and play our songs again When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name No one recognized me, I didn’t look the same But it’s all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, ya can’t please everyone, so ya got to please yourself It was a special song for Rick. Up until that time, Nelson rarely wrote his own hits and a year later Garden Party would sit for three months on the charts and introduce the 50′s star to a new audience.
