A friend has read through the books 4-5 times but never seen The Two Towers or The Return of the King, so we decided to make a day of it.

Also, we decided to eat and drink Hobbit food.

We started at 0830 and didn't end until 11:00 pm. Quite a day!

Won't do that again, the extra length dvds are long, but it was fun to do once.

Hobbit food is basically English food from the 1800's. Lots of bread, butter and preserves. We also had bacon, mushrooms, onions, Ale, coffee, tarts, cake, fish & chips, mince pork pies, bacon and eggs.

you mean you metalheads don't spend everyday like this?

I wanted to plan something like this with a buddy of mine who's never seen the LOTR but really wants to, minus that food of course. That was before he got married. His wife is not the kind to allow this to happen, unfortunately.

we did all three movies in a row once - but we didnt do the themed food, which sounds neat.

I do all three movies at least once a year. This last time however, was broken up into three days.

I also enjoy the bonus material on the extended editions. talk about a ton of extras!!

That sounds like a fantastic way to spend a day!

I have all three movies - and they are great! Not sure I could spend a whole day like that. I usually don't watch more than one movie in a sitting.

We took some breaks, which is why it lasted until 11 Pm. He had a meeting at 1:00 for and hour, we broke for a sit down supper, and we went to his house for the finale so as to spare my wife from our geekiness and let her have the TV.



Yeah, I'm looking forward to digging into the extras at some point. I'm sure that will be fascinating.

When I was in college my B-Movie lovin' friends and I would have similar "marathons" that would last all night. We'd hit the video store and rent a whole mess of sequels/related films and watch'em all in a row. There was the Texas Chainsaw Fest, the Puppet Master Fest, the Killer Tomatoes Fest... good times.

I worked a Rocky Horror Picture Show movie showing in college. Everyone came dressed up (well sorta) and threw all kinds of stuff when the appropriate cue was given. What a mess.

Movie marathons are sweet and I used to do them regularly on Sunday's while nursing the weekends hangovers.

At the time it would have been trilogies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Evil Dead, Back To The Future...

Today there are some franchisese that could keep you watching for a good long while: Harry Potter for example.


I need to revisit those LOTR movies, especially with the new movie about to be released.

i havent seen the Raiders movies in ages. THat sounds a like my next marathon!

I like all of the Alien movies, even 3 and the new ones, so that might be one someday.

I don't think I could do the "marathon" treatment for the movies franchises I like because they're all too long.



Doing a Hellraiser or Saw marathon would take forever considering there's about 7 movies in each franchise.



I like the food themed idea too but none of my favorites lend themselves to that idea unless you're a cannibal.
