PostSubject: Cd Sleeve Binders   Tue Aug 02, 2011 10:13 pm

I don't think anyone here uses these to store their CDs, but if you do I'd caution about it. I used to keep my CDs in those sleeve binders so I could take them everywhere (before I had a computer or MP3 player-and to save space even after) but moved them back into their cases when my CDs started getting scratched up (same thing with my DVDs which I also stored in there for a time). Now going through my CDs so I can sell them off, I have several CDs I could easily part with but can't because they're too scratched up (and I'm not talking superficial scratches that don't effect playing) from being stored in those things for too long. So if anyone here uses them I'd urge you to stop and maybe put them on those spindles that CD-Rs come in (my CD/DVDs that I have yet to put back in their cases that I store on them have had no obvious damage).

Yeah, I rarely ever use those. I just take my CDs with me when I take a trip. Jewel case and all. I hate those things and noticed the same thing - they were getting scratched up.

I have one of those that I used to keep all my burned cds in, but at a certain point I started buying cds faster than I could copy them so for the past few years I always just take the cd in its real case with me

I rarely take my cds out of the house. I rip them to the computer, put them in their case, and place them on the shelf. I take the mp3 player out of the house.

I used to take them with me, but about four years ago I had my disc changer in my car decide to not give me back my cds. I had to have the dealer send it back to the manufacturer to remove the cds and return them to me. I did get those back, and my changer was replaced free of charge, but not more then one week later it happened again! This time I only had two cds in there, but I did not get them back! angry

Again, the changer was replaced for free, but I just don't trust it anymore.

I have a lot of burned discs -
mostly mp3s/ tv shows/ movies ( it all started off with some games I think in the late 90s! ) and started for a year or two storing all of them in binders... I haven't noticed any scratches, and keep some regular cd's in them too as the jewel cases have broken spokes.

I gave up on that (since binders costs around $7 to 10, not including shipping) and started storing burned discs back on the spindles to save space.

Which brings up a major beef I have.

I can't find empty jewel cases for sale in locals stores anymore, unless they are slimlines that used to be used mostly for singles / EP's.
Guess I will have to now also buy jewel cases online too.

resurfaced?

This is news to me! requires investigation!
(I hate friends who have scratchedf my cd's or dvd's... maybe I did it myself when drunk a few times too, but I will still blame them)

Only if the price of resurfacing could be made up by what I sell them for. Even then, if I don't sell them on here I usually take them to Movie Trading Company [and they don't accept resurfaced CDs (though they do sell them resurfaced)]. They take them at Half Priced Books but they pay considerably less (I took a number of CDs to MTC and they offered me $10 in cash but I took the same CDs + several more to HPB and was offered...$10 cash).

WalMart used to carry standard jewel cases and it pisses me off that they don't anymore. Kmart still carries them. As does Best Buy. You can also get them at your local CD store like Hastings or FYE. Office supply stores like Office Depot and Staples also carry them too. I know, I go through a ton of them.

I guess I'm lucky, a local chain of used stores here offers free resurfacing to anyone who buys their 20 dollar membership card (one time fee for life mind you) which also gives you discounts and all that.

Whereas another place I've gone to wanted to charge 3 bucks per cd!

Are those the ones they call cd5 or J -card slimlines?

I like those ones because you can still make a great cover and still read the titles in the spine.
