I remember we had one of these threads years ago when I was posting here under the monker 'blackieboy'. Not gonna try to dig it out of it's grave though. Sometimes these threads need to stay buried in their graves IMO. In fact, it wouldn't bother me at all if we got rid of that old room with it's mummies and rotting bodies lol!

But that's another topic all together.

What band(s) do you love that others seem to hate?

My top one is probably Depeche Mode.

I don't get why so many metalheads bash on these guys. Well, actually they don't bash on them anymore like they used to. Back in the late 80s when I was in the metal scene in Colorado - all my friends advised me against and warned with caution me about Depeche Mode. They suck more than suck they'd say. Anyway ... I thought okay - I hate crap music so I won't give em a chance.

Then one day I got up the nerve to check them out for myself. I was amazed at how good they were. They were nothing like the pop of the day. Their music was written by them, not the pop world. They were an independent band - not one owned by record companies. In fact, did you know that Depeche Mode holds one of the records of selling the most albums of any 'indie' band? Well, they are the real deal. And every bit as 'metal' in attitude as most metal bands. Even moreso than some.

However, I get it. If you don't like synth-dominated music, Depeche Mode is not for you. They wield their synths like Iron Maiden wields their guitars (and ironically came out at the same time as Iron Maiden, and from the same country as well). Both bands are pioneers and whether you like either one of their music, you have to respect the legacy and the niche they (each) carved out ... not only for themselves, but for a whole generation to come.

My top one is probably Gin Blossoms.



Metalheads and critics alike seem to love to bag on this band but I love their music.

I like Gin Blossoms. I don't listen to them as much as I used to. But I still like em. I get in the mood every blue moon.

I break out Gin Blossoms and The Connells' "Ring" album on a regular basis; usually any time I'm just tired of the new stuff I've bought and want to hear an old familiar friend.

I like Gin Blossoms. The band I really enjoy that a lot of others dont seem to is American Angel.

pretty much every band i like, most others detest.

Rage Against the Machine, although I think some like them here. I like Hatebreed too.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who loves the new Euro-power sound. Like, new Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, etc. -- I can't tell if people just don't like new stuff or if they just don't like the sound, but I actually love this direction

I'm not too sure about all of your opinions on it... So discuss!

I used to really like Euro powermetal but I burned myself out on it.

I'm much more into Depeche Mode today than I was back when. I had always dug a few of their songs but never really gave the albums a chance. For that style of music their albums are really solid. Big fan of Some Great Reward and Violator. Also, the song Somebody just may be the greatest love ballad ever.

A few that come to mind for me...

P. Galore/Boss Hog/ Jon Spencer Blues Explosion or as my girl calls it "profane noise". Can't say why I love all three's output but I do. And I'm not someone who typically liked anything else from that art-noise scene.

Laibach
Yes I love Laibach. A lot. What can I say "Life Is Life".

Nitro
I thought and still think those two Nitro albums are killer. And they've held up for me better than a bunch of other stuff I loved more or that others love.
