| I agree with those who despise genres and despise subgenres even more.
I like music that I like. Sure genre classification is useful to try to explain the music but I find band comparisons to be much more useful than saying Band X falls into XYZ genre.

| There are certain topics that pop up on this board like clockwork every 6 months.
Usually it's some variation of "What bands are really metal?" or "These metal genres rule" or something of the same ilk.
Then we argue for 6 pages on whether band a) is hard rock or metal or power or glam or thrash or progressive or doom or...and it's just really rather silly.

Technical or Slamming Brutal Death Metal, Old School Death Metal, Goregrind, Grindcore, Powerviolence, Deathcore, Beatdown Hardcore, D-beat, Crust, Raw Black Metal, Norsecore.

Well, to be honest, I like those threads. For the most part I don't even contribute to those, but I do get a kick out of reading them, and seeing everybody getting their thongs twisted. |

| Yeah, but see - that's where I draw the line. I enjoy chatting and hanging out ... but when it gets into strife, I'm lost to the thread at that point. Strife and bitterness are both very destructive negative forces. One would do well to stand far from such as these ...
And ... I just don't enjoy arguing with people. I know some people do and get a kick out of that ... but not me. I don't get my inspiration this way at all. I'm into peace, metal and prosperity for all the brethren. |

to an extent I agree with you but I do find at least a superficial description of a band helpful. I think trying to pigeon hole music into one nice neat box doesnt work but some general classifications are helpful..._________________  |

| I think it's kind of ridiculous that the OP lumped hard rock in with AOR. When I sit down to AC/DC's Highway to Hell or Thin Lizzy's Bad Reputation, I don't go "Hey this is some great generic hook-driven rock n roll!" |
