According to TMZ.com former WARRANT singer Jani Lane was found dead at a hotel in Los Angeles Thursday evening (August 11). He was 47 years old.

Lane's body was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, California. So far, no official cause of death has been released.

In February, Lane canceled all of his previously announced solo tour dates two days before the first show was due to take place. No explanation was offered for the cancelation.

WARRANT announced in September 2008 that it was splitting with Lane six months after the band first reunited with the troubled vocalist. He has since been replaced by Robert Mason (LYNCH MOB, CRY OF LOVE, BIG rooster).

On July 19, 2010, Lane pled no contest to DUI stemming from his most recent arrest back in May 2010 — and was ordered to serve 120 days in jail. In addition, Lane lost his license for three years and had to complete a 30-month alcohol-education program.

Lane originally left WARRANT in 2002 to pursue a solo career. He released a solo album, "Back Down to One", in 2003, but shortly after was admitted to a rehab center for alcohol and drug-related exhaustion. He also appeared on VH1's reality series "Celebrity Fit Club".

When asked in a May 18, 2009 interview with "The Johnny Dare Morning Show" how he managed to "get straight," Jani replied, "It's just a matter of deciding you're done, in my opinion. I mean, that probably oversimplifies it, but really, really and truly you have to go, 'You know what? I'm done with this. I don't like feeling like this, I don't like living like this.' And it's also nice to get the creativity back, which is impossible to flow when you're unconscious."

Sad news, such a great Melodic Hard Rock vocalist. I might need to blast some Warrant later in his memory.

Warrant's first few records were pretty good. Uncle Tom's Cabin was a great song.

Didn't Jani fill in for Jack Russell from Great White not that long ago? Kinda weird, concidering Jack Russell was the one in really bad shape at the time.

I hope this joke doesn't sound insensitve, I really admired the man's talent and think it's a sad thing to die so early. There is one bright side to this, Jani won't ever have to hear Cherry Pie again.

That's a bummer, but unfortunately it's not terribly shocking either. Anyone who's been paying attention the past few years kinda knew that this was probably gonna happen sooner or later.

I will admit that I never really gave Warrant the time of day when they were current (I was too busy being "tr00 METTLE" and all that) but over the years I've picked up a couple of their old CDs and they had some pretty damn sweet hard rock songs in their catalog. Nowadays CHERRY PIE, DOG EAT DOG and ULTRAPHOBIC get pretty regular spins 'round my house.

I hope he's at peace now.

I have never liked Warrant and still do not, but what I like even less and hate with a passion is someone dying young due to a destructive lifestyle choice, I wish the man had beat his demons and lived his life, this sucks, way too young to die. Drugs suck.

Man, what a sh*tty way to start off the morning. I'm really saddened by this news. Warrant has been a long time favorite of mine. Seen them live a few times.



The last time I saw Jani was a few years ago in LA. We went to see Metal Skool (aka Steel Panther) and they pulled him up on stage to sing. It was pretty obvious to everyone that he was hammered, although he sounded fine once he started singing.



He was quite a talented songwriter and it's a shame that his demons got the best of him. What worse is that the main stream media, if they even choose to acknowlede his passing, he'll be more of a punch line and in his own words the "Cherry Pie guy".

Truly sad news indeed. He played a significant role for part of the soundtrack to our lives. I wont ever forget all the hot chicks loved him back in the day LOL!! Now he probably would prefer to be remembered that way then as his hit song. I feel bad for his kids too, and yes this is not very surprising since he had serious issues with alcohol.

Am I gettiing him confused with Sabastion Bach, but didnt one of them help Alice Cooper write this new album coming out?
