Here's the thing, though. Where does it end? Are you going to disassociate yourself and your life with all things non-Christian? Do you sever relationships with family, friends, co-workers, everything and anything that goes against your beliefs?

A Christian is suposed to live in the world but not be influenced by it, not ignore it all together.

How is that possible in the world we live in today??
The same way it's possible to live in a communist country but never buy into the communist ideal. Does that make sense?

I understand what you mean, but i still wonder. We have access to so much information and so many use the media to push their goods or their message, that icant see how anyone can say that they are not influenced by it. It would make sense a 100 years ago.
And i dont think that you are un influenced even if you dont buy into something.
I don't think I disagree with you. Also, not exactly sure what verse he's referring to but "influence" is not the right word. I believe it says We are to be in the world (obviously, we live in it) but not of the world. In other words, our faith comes from the perspective that this world is temporary. We're not "of" it. And yes, on the outside we're influenced by our surroundings. Finances, quality of life, marketing, what we buy, how we live....all those physical aspects. That's why personally I believe Pepsi DESTROYS Coke.

I wasnt' directly quoting the Bible but more a or less paraphrasing it and you're right, I should have said it differently. By influence, I meant in a negative way. You shouldn't let the world influence you to compromise your faith or to let it tempt you to walk away from it.
I figured you were paraphrasing bro. I just realized "influenced" was not exactly right. Very Happy

A little late to the question, I find myself much more affected by anything sexually explicit. Be it TV shows, movies, music.....I don't care for lyrics that degrade Christ or Christians, some of the worse to my ears are the latter Exodus albums.....But it still doesn't affect me like something that is sexually explicit.....Stender said if you throw out your music, might as well get rid of all the movies a person owns, and not watch any TV......Why does music always get a bad rap?

So me personally I steer clear of that stuff.....

In all honesty, I think music is way more spiritual than movies. The world have lived without moving pictures for 99,99% of it's duration, but music has always been there.

Completely agree. This is why I don't buy into the "it's just music."

Except the part with the Pepsi destroys Coke maybe Laughing

Pepsi "Throwback" (which is made old-school with real sugar, not the corn syrup processed sweetener crap they use nowadays) destroys any and all Coke products in this universe and/or any alternate dimensions thereof.

...just sayin'. Very Happy

Amen, once the mid 90s hit the taste of soda went downhill. Especially fountain drinks which used to be the best. Luckily some places like McDonalds and Waffle House still have decent fountain drinks. Around here you can get sugared Coke, Sprite, and Pepsi imported from Mexico in glass bottles but you pay more than for the regular plastic bottles. Also there are still quite a few Dr. Pepper bottleing companies that make it with sugar, but again your paying more for less. I still drink the corn syrup sodas (Dr. Pepper, Coke, & Pepsi) but that's because I try not to intake too much caffine and those come caffine free. Too bad Big Red doesn't come caffine free becaus it is my all time favorite soda.

The hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant near my house has the real Coke from Mexico too (at least the legal kind). Tastes way better with real sugar. Coke from Mexico, it's a match made in high heaven.

The Mountain Dew with real sugar in it isn't so good, but Coke with real sugar might not be so bad.

I agree that music is more spiritual than movies....To my knowledge the lyrics I listen to don't affect me in the way a sex scene does in a movie, or sexually explicit lyrics...Maybe they do and I am just not aware.....I know words can and are powerful......I don't ever think about killing people when I hear violent lyrics, or millitary style lyrics..But, if I see a sex scene in a movie, or hear sexually explicit lyrics, my mind does wander...to a place it should not go.......
