| This is the second time an Iomega external hard drive has failed on me. Unfortunatly I hadn't backed up my music in a while so much of my music is unavailiable to me. Also no stores around here have that particular hard drive for me to switch out the connectors with and I had to order one online. Once I recover my data and put into my back-up drive I will no longer be using Iomega hard drives again. Aparently this connector problem is a common occurance with these things.
Until I can get this taken care of I can use my back-up to access what music is not stuck on the Iomega. |

Before you worry, do some research to see if that particular one has problems. The one I have is 500GB and is an older model (I had to get a used/refurbished one for the replacement). |

| Canceled my order. Found an adapter especially made for my situation:
I can get this for around $20 (instead of paying $60 on another hard drive of the same brand I have trouble with) which will allow me to put the data on the Iomega into my back-up hard drive and then get a better hard drive which will become the new back-up hard drive. And I need to update it once a month so somthing like this can never happen again. |

| Had a WD 300 GB go out on me not long after a virus got on it. Don't know how that would affect the hardware, but nevertheless it no longer works. |

| Seagates aren't very good hard drives either. I had a TB that crapped out after 8 months of using it. |

| I used to have tons of problems with Iomega products (especially their discs) many years back and stopped buying their products because of it.
Hope you can recover everything. |

Got that and my computer doesn't read it. I'm taking it to Geek Squad and see about somehow getting the data out of it and put into a new one. This couldn't come at a worse time as any free time I may have will be very little. I either go to trucking school and spend most of the time on the road or take this tire job and spend most of the time at work (on average they work 60-70 hours a week). Apart from the CDs I don't have anymore, it will take a long time to get the ones I do have back into my computer. |

| It's over. They can't get the data off the drive and so much music is gone unless I pay almost $1000 for data recovery. Now I have to go through all my CDs and put the ones I have into my computer and all the ones I sold in the sale are gone until I get the albums again later down the line (or download them off the internet). I should have known something like this would happen, it seems like bad things are just going to happen to me. I always thought deep down in side I was an optimist but I feel like that part of me has either died or is in a coma. I'll survive as this is small in the grand scheme of things that can happen, but it's still got me in a funk and has sapped me of all my energy. |

| Very kind of you Toho, thanks! I will be making a list soon to see what I'm missing. I really brought this upon myself. Before my dissmissal from Honda I knew I neeeded to back up my music but I kept forgetting it (things like this are what make me think I might have ADD) and now it's too late. The only thing that's got me down from this the most is the time it will take to rip my music to the computer. Time that I don't have considering I either need to become a truck driver or work 10 to 12 hour days at a commercial tire shop (good money but very hard work and you're basically married to your job). |

| I have one last option that may get me the info, but I don't know if it's worth it. I'm thinking I could get another of the same model and switch out the circuit boards but none of my bits fit the torque screws (it requires a very small bit) and if it doesn't work, I'm out $60+ and however much it costs for a bit set that has one that will fit.
I'm returning the data recovery tool which will give me back around $25. |

My main back-up drive is a WD. The replacement one I got is Seagate which is also considered a top brand. |

| I haven't had the best experience with Seagate over the years, so just be careful with that one.
