| I think they should have just posted a full song but whatever.
It may be more electronic like Retraced, but the second clip with the sitar and indian drum sounds sooo rad. I hope alot of stuff like that is done over the course of the EP. _________________ |

That sounds pretty sweet. Reminds me of Dead Soul Tribe. I gather this is a new direction for the band? I'm not familiar with their older work, but this new song is a pretty mellow affair. _________________ A legend in posting since February 1st, 2007

Yeah, the new version of the band is light years away from Focus and the death metal stuff they did before that. They're excellent, though. _________________ "Happy people have no stories" —Therapy? Shock Totem | The Eyesore Times | Getcha Rocks Off |

| I skimmed it. Sounds great! I just don't want to listen to too many songs online from what will be a short EP, you know.
Interesting interview, though. _________________ "Happy people have no stories" —Therapy? Shock Totem | The Eyesore Times | Getcha Rocks Off |

| well I finally bought the ep today. I saw it at Best Buy while getting the new album from The Mars Volta.
I've listened through Carbon-Based Anatomy only once so far, but I found it really disappointing. The drumming seemed pretty interesting but the rest of the music was kind of boring. I'll have to give it a few more listens to be fair, but my initial thought is that it pales in comparison to their other releases |

| Other than the title track, the album is just so boring its sad. I dont think the style could really be classified as metal either, maybe prog, but that would be borderline for me. |

| I can't believe people still like this stuff. It is nothing like what made them an interesting band in the first place.
How far is this from old new age/jazz stuff that their fans wouldn't touch with a 10 foot poll? Some people just listen to this because it has the name CYNIC on it.
Change is fine, but this is a real snoozer. Mellow music can be cool, fun, and interesting but this is not it.

I pretty much agree with you. To me it sounded like new age music which is not really my thing. Aside from the drums I found the album to be pretty boring. I'm still going to listen to it more to give it a fair shot.
I don't think it matters whether it's similar to how they started though. They can change all they want. I just don't like the newest change. If I recall correctly a variety of people criticized Traced in Air for not being death metal enough, but to my hearing that was a masterpiece. And I think it did retain quite a few similarities to Focus. But the latest is definitely a further departure. |
